Seiko SSC309 wrist watches news:
Serious watch photographers know to set the hands of an analog watch to 10:10 or 10:12. According to Rene' Rondeau in his Hamilton Wristwatches, A Collector's Guide, the Hamilton advertising department wanted a uniform setting of 10:12 for consistency in all the company's print ads AND because at that setting, the hands are nearly symmetrical. It also brackets the Hamilton name below the 12 o'clock postion. However, the company used various hand positions in bygone years, the most popular being 9:12.
The rotating bezels on dive watches always seem to have the first 15 minutes more precisely deliniated than the other 45. Can anyone tell me why? It seems like the first 15 minutes underwater using a tank would be the least important to track, not the most important. If anything, shouldn't the numbers on the bezel be a countdown instead of a countup? If the numbers started at 60 and then worked down to 1, then when the minute hand hit the 15 you'd know you have 15 minutes left. When it hit the 10, 10 minutes left, etc. I've never seen it explained how to use the numbers on the rotating bezel, but it seems to me that it would be more useful as a countdown.

Was fixin ( Texas folks will understand this ) to clean my new OP 39 with Vereat today when I saw that my caseback sticker was still on! Not earth shattering news but I thought I'd share with my friends here. Oh and my scraggly dog says hi. This is the winter version of her. Have a great weekend all!
