Found: A Benrus Presented To Roald Amundsen, The First Man To Reach The South Pole
When Roald Amundsen became the first man to reach the South Pole in 1911, he got there by navigating with a sextant and a pocketwatch made by the J. Assmann watch company in Glashütte, Germany. Actually, it was two watches, both identical observation pieces certified accurate by the German Naval Institute. One was set to home time and the other to local time and both were used for navigational readings. Those watches now reside in the Fram Museum in Norway, the steward of most of Amundsen’s expedition artifacts. But not all of Amundsen’s possessions are at the museum. Kadloo Smartoli Quattro winder...thoughts.
I am new to the forum and have been hunting for the perfect watch winder for my collection. I have watches like 49mm breitlings with leather straps, all the way down to 36mm Rolex datejust so I need something to accommodate large case watches. I have narrowed it down to 3 options, if there is something you know of that may be better please enlighten me.1. Kadloo Smartoli Quattro. I like how you can hold a total of 13 watches.2. Wolf designs 2.7 Viceroy, either the triple or 6 winder. I like how the triple offers extra storage but the extra wouldnt be enough so I would need an additional watch case anyway. 3. Volta 8 watch carbon fibre winder. And I would get the matching 8 watch Volta watch case. I have read many good reviews on the wolf winder but not much else on the other 2. If anyone has any experience with them please let me know.Thanks

Looking to get my first Patek
Thank you in advance and sorry for a new thread, but most of the ones I saw regarding this started with asking advice regarding a couple of watches. I wanted to keep it broader.I am looking to add a Patek to my watches. I have a Deep Sea Dweller and a GMT (same year I was born) and a Cartier Tank that was my grandfathers. I am 6'7 and the Deep Sea Dweller looks like a normal watch on me..haha. My wife actually works for Tiffany so I would love a co-brand if I could find one but not set on that.Will probably try to buy a pre-owned but not 100%. Budget is up to 45k but will consider anything.From reading pretty much every thread here on Patek, it seems that people either say get what I love (problem being I pretty much love them all) and/OR Nautilus, blue dial SS :)I justify my lust with thinking that collectibility will retain investment, so I am 100% interested in items with good resale and collectibility.Sorry for the book and thank you so much in advance. Why Did the 36MM Datejust get the Upgrades?
Hi all, this question intrigues me. Why would the datejust 36mm get the new 32 series movement and the redesigned case sides (my understanding it will hold a polish better) before the Sub? In fact why would Rolex give it to the datejust ahead of the 36mm Day Date?I speculate, it is because the DJ is a much bigger seller, and more important to Rolex than we imagine. They need to satisfy (gasp!) their most important customer, the 36mm datejust buyer! I am sure there will be no waiting lists for them when they roll out across the line. Maybe Rolex does care about their most important customers! Could the majority of us forum members be less important than we think? Its too bad Rolex didn't release detailed sales information by model, it would be interesting to see. All speculation I know, but I would like to know what you think? I think it cant be overlooked. The DJ 36mm receiving all the latest and greatest improvements first. Why?
