Baselworld Best: Timepieces To Watch In 2012
Leaving Baselworld each year is bitter sweet because I tend to have such a good time. I don¡¯t get to see even a third of what I would like to check out, and it is great to be among my friends and close colleagues for over a week. It is tiring however, and during final days you end up forgetting you are there for watches. I love it though, and am proud to be part of the world¡¯s biggest watch show. Next year I have decided I need to attend the show with a posse. Who is with me? I can promise there will be some nice watch fondling going on.So I keep getting asked what my impression of the 2012 show is/was, and what I liked the best. Always a tough question as I just admitted to not having seeing all there was to see. Good day friends!I¡¯m intrigued by Tissot's (et al) relatively new Powermatic 80 movement. I¡¯m amazed by both the apparent accuracy and the power reserve available at such a low price point. I¡¯m giving serious consideration to purchasing one of the new Seastar watches with the red ceramic bezel.Tissot has stated repeatedly that the movement uses a new, high-tech, low friction escapement, but as far as I can tell they¡¯ve never said what it¡¯s made of. Silicon? Some kind of plastic? Have any of you horologic scholars seen any photos or write-ups that sheds light on question? How durable is it?Additionally, I¡¯ve tried without success to find information on the serviceability of the movement. I know Swatches Sistem51 is a ¡°throw away¡± movement and at it¡¯s given price, that¡¯s what I would expect. The Powermatic 80 is on a completely different level, but I want to make sure that it can be serviced when needed over the next 50 years!

Dear watch enthusiast. We all know by now Nautilus are impossible to get at retail price due to rarity and high demand. To top it off, now it's almost impossible to be listed under the waiting list unless you have bought a none popular Patek model from the store you want to purchase from . That being said Prices have skyrocketed on 5711 and 5712 by 20% to control the demand and grey market (which skyrocketed as well lol). Long story short, wanted to run a poll and get your opinion for my first patek purchase (managed to be listed on all 3 models through a friend of mine)5711r with rose bracelet (51k) - prestige and 5711 after all5712 in steel and steel bracelet (40k) - rarity but overpriced and 4k short of 5726 5726 in steel (44K) - annual calendar and moonphase for reasonable price, and no real demand I know alot of people will say get what you like the most, but I also for that price consider collectibility and value.
