Icelandic watchmaker JS Watch has just announced a beautiful new aviator called the Frisland 1941. Part of the Frisland collection, the 1941 is a classic looking Pilot watch with a little bit of JS Watch flair to it. The watch has a retro World War II look to it in honor of the Reykjavik airport that opened in 1941 during World War II. It was built by the British in Iceland and in 1946 was handed over to Iceland's sovereign government to run on their own. Apparently the area did serve as an airstrip before the formal airport was built, but that is enough history to justify the production of this watch collection.As a pilot watch, the Frisland 1941 is very humble in stature being 42mm wide. If you like watches enough, you enjoy talking about them. Chances are however that you know more people that don't care about them than those who suggest you go browse at a watch store. How is it that liking watches to us makes so much sense to us while the concept is lukewarm at best when mentioned to others?I've pondered this issue at some length and identified at least three areas of interest or personality traits that should exist in each watch lover. Those are appreciation of engineered utility, art appreciation, and the propensity to be a collector.You have to love machines and gadgets to like watches. They are the original gadget. A tiny machine you wear on your wrist always moving, that you need to keep alive. Be it by winding, wearing, to keep a battery within. You can constantly view it working as it tells you the time. Pressure test?
Hi all,Have a Seamaster GMT 2535.80 that I have been wearing for 6 years. After spending some time around trf seems folks are taking watches in to be tested for water resistance once every year or two. I have never had mine tested...... As it is in the ocean a few times a week, I better take it in to have it checked out, as hoping for another 4 years before service. What is the general thought on these seals/gaskets? Are people getting seals replaced every couple years? Or simply having the watch checked out, no leaks no new parts?Appreciate the insight!

This thread is about when you first became aware of PP watches - not when you first owned one. For me it was in my teens in early high school when I would see ads for PP watches in the WSJs my dad would bring home from work. The Calatravas even in those old black and white WSJ ads were so beautiful I knew that one day I would want to wear my own. This was the year it happened for me, some 4 decades after I first saw one in pictures. What was your first intro to Patek watches?
