I've been looking at the Breitling Colt Automatic and was wondering if any of you have any thoughts on this watch. I know that it's one of the cheaper watches in the Breitling lineup. When were automatic watches first mass produced?
I've developed an interest in watches from the 1930s, 40s and 50s (from watching old movies, corny I know). So I was wondering, when did affordable automatic watches become available to the public? Were the mechanical watches all replaced by automatics? Did the automatics take over the watch market or did most people stick with mechanical ("wind up") watches. Thanks in advance for the lesson.
