New Explorer II vs GMT II - C comparison
Hi All,I just finished comparing the new Explorer II and the GMT II - C The Explorer II debuted at the Basel 2011 show and the buzz about the watch has not died down. The increased size to a 42mm case, the updated luminescence, Paraflex shock mechanism for the balance wheel, and of course the orange hand, make the Explorer II stand out from the rest of the Rolex line. On the left is the GMT-C and on the right is the Explorer II. The case thickness between both watches is very similar with the GMT-C being 12mm and the Explorer II being 12.45mm. The Explorer II case is slightly longer as it is wider being 48.70 long versus 46.38mm on the GMT-C. The image does not adequately capture how the Explorer II case has more of a curvature than the flatter GMT-C case. The weight of both watches is very similar with the GMT-C being 145g versus the Explorer II being 150g (weighed with two links removed from the watch strap). Entry Level High End Face-Off: Chopard vs Vacheron Constantin [more Q than A]
Ladies and gents, after a few months of searching and thinking, I am torn apart between two entry high-end pieces. Need your thoughts and inputs on few questions. Let me begin by showing the contestants: and on the other side: As most of you already guessed, the battle is between the Chopard 1937 LE and the Vacheron Constantin Overseas 47040For all purposes of this comparison price should be considered equal, i.e. taken out of the equation. So, my train of thought has travelled pretty much through the following stations:Movement Chopard: Cal 1.010 - designed to be the "base" movement of LUC, suggesting volume production and possibility for modules. 60hrs power reserve. Roughly 5 years old, so not exactly proven in the field? Movement Vacheron: Cal 1226 - unfortunately, I could not dig out data on this one, except it has 40hrs power reserve. Could be Piguet-based or in-house. Flying blind on this one. Case Chopard: 42mm, beautifully finished. No thrills, clean lines. Crown @ 4o'clock is

In 1999, my fianc¨¦ and I walked into Feldmars, in Los Angeles. I was an Omega man, had been since my dad gave me his Speedmaster Professional in 1991...but was curious about Breitling. My fianc¨¦ had a quartz Breitling, and was interested in a mechanical watch.We were just browsing, but spotted two watches of interest...an Old Navitimer II, dark blue dial, silver subdials, on a black crocodile strap, and a mid size Colt on a rubber strap. That Colt was mechanical, though the current line are all Superquartz.We got a great deal on the watches...the Navitimer went for a little under $3K...and left happy.I wore that watch the night 1999 turned into 2000, and on my wedding day and on the night my daughter was born. My wife and I have separated, amicably but irrevocably, but we still share a passion for fine watches.Over the years, I replaced the well worn croc strap with a Navitimer bracelet, then added a brown calf strap last year for a little variety.So, here is my first and ever favo

Anyone with the newer 39.7mm Speedmaster..?
I am curious if anyone has acquired the 39.7mm speedmaster that looks a lot like the vintage speedmaster. The 42mm speedmaster wears too large for me. Other omega users have told me I should avoid the 38mm 3510 speedmaster.The 39.7 size could be a perfect fit- requesting wrist shots from my fellow collectors...
