Santa surprise?
Because of our various family commitments on Christmas Day, we all gather on the Saturday before for lunch followed the exchange and opening of gifts.Our traditional "turkey and dressing" dinner occurs at Thanksgiving so our "Christmas dinner" will be at a local restaurant that we all enjoy. This year, as last year, we will be enjoying Mexican food and margaritas. After eating we will drive to our oldest daughter's house to open presents.Among the packages we will be carrying to Gwen's tomorrow is one Santa left early with my name on it. It appears to be about the size, shape, and weight of a watch box and it doesn't rattle.What could it be? Fr. John+

Just Arrived: Lord Elgin with 23 jewel Swiss 654 movement
Just got this one this afternoon. Overall in very good shape with only a nick at 6 o'clock on the crystal.Not even sure if this comes from the Horizon Look line, but the crystal does wrap around to sit flush with the bezel.This watch uses the 654 23 jewel Swiss automatic movement. It has a diameter of 32mm and the case is 10k gold filled. The movement is a bit stiff to wind and set, so at some point, it will go off the watchmaker.So, does this watch belong to the Horizon Look family and does it have a name? (PS, the photos of the case and the movement are from the auction, as I can't seem to pop the back off and it is in such good shape, I'm just not going to scratch it)

Is the Lemania 8810 the thinnest three-hand-plus-date automatic movement ever?
So, I am expecting the arrival any moment of an Ebel 1911 with a Lemania 8810 movement. Lemania bought this movement from Longines (where it was the L990) in the late 80's, and it has been used in a range of high-end watches, plus a few more mid-priced watches like the Ebel (and most recently a Nivrel). Now that Lemania is part of the Swatch again (since 1999), and has been renamed Manufacture Breguet, the movement is now found in certain Breguet models (but only, so far as I've been able to discover, as a tractor for complications, such as moonphase or chronographs), and has also been used again by Longines (again called the L990) in some reissues. This movement coming into my possession has me going on fresh research.The Lemania 8810/8815 is 2.95mm thick, in its complete form including a full rotor, central seconds hand, and date. I have variously (and conflictingly) read that this movement was 1.) the thinnest full-rotor auto on introduction in 1978 and for the following decade, 2.)

Ginza 7...ARRIVAL!!!
My dear TRF friends, it has finally arrived. I went to the AP Boutique in Tokyo, Japan this past June. Although I had dreamed and thought about it, I had to see the Ginza 7 in person (even if I didn't have the cash on hand to buy ASAP). The future Mrs understands my addiction and humored the detour.This only made things worse. I'd think about it all the time. two months passed by... I decided... It was time.A ticket was booked. Calls were made. Emails were sent to the boutique. A wire transfer was put in place. Essentially this became a mission to extract a carbon timepiece from Japan. The only thing was I was going to be in a part of Japan a ways away from Tokyo. So I told the boutique I need delivery...No problem they said.Two days after sending a wire they told me it was on it's way...And now, I present to you...my grail and very first Forged Carbon Offshore as well as my third AP Offshore overall...THE GINZA 7 FORGED CARBON!!!
