A. Lange & Sohne Germany Visit Trip Update: Winter Watch Wonderland
I am in Germany maybe 10 minutes and the signs of watch insanity are in my face. On my 4 hour layover in Munich to Dresden I am surprised to see that Munich's domestic terminal is basically one big watch store. There is a huge open watch store in the middle with tons of rare brands, and those that you don't even see in America at all, such as Certina and Union Glashutte. There is certainly an air of haute horology already. The first picture is of a magazine and gift store display. They actually highlight their collection of watch magazines! Maratac Mid Sized Pilot: Hands-On
Right around the time that Blake reviewed the Maratac Pilot, County Comm quietly released a second, smaller model. Dubbed the Maratac Mid Sized Pilot this 39mm version is the same in almost every way, it's just smaller. It has the same Miyota 8245 automatic movement with small seconds, the same domed sapphire crystal, the same dial design and the same cool-little onion crown tucked away at about 4 o'clock.?Ultimately, the qualities and aesthetic of the original Maratac Pilot have been successfully translated to the smaller sized body. Classical Japanese watch?
Dear All,this year I have planned one or maximum two new watches. One is an old gral of mine, the AP RO but I have nothing to ask about it except am I going to be able to afford it (and will I want to put all that money in a watch)? The other would be what I call a "classical Japanes watch". One like the Grand Seiko SBGR051. I know that Rolex and possibly other make similar watches but my first watch was a Citizen manual wind with that shape, my parents used to have similar shaped Citizen and Seikos and to me that is what a Japanese watch is supposed to look like. I have made a short list of some watches like that, I would like to hear your opinions and maybe hear whether I am missing some model from my list.(1) Of course the SBGR051 and similar GSs. Pluses to me are that it is a GS, it should be perfectly finished and should be possible to service it during the next 50 or 60 years, after which probably my interest for watches will be faded.
