For Baselworld, Hublot presents something new for the brand: an extra-thin Classic Fusiuon skeleton watch. The 45mm watch is equipped with a new movement just 2.9mm thick, developed by Hublot. It comes in a fully skeleton-worked version that puts the escapement and balance wheel on display. The dial side features small seconds at 7 o’clock. UPDATED: U.S. prices added.In a nod to the brand’s history, the hands match those of the very first Hublot watches. With a 90-hour power reserve and 50-meter water resistance, this piece is available in two versions, one in titanium, limited to 1000 pieces, and the other in 18k King Gold with 500 pieces.The retail prices are $16,400 for the titanium model and $33,700 for the gold version. Hamilton introduced the Khaki Pioneer Pilot at Basel earlier this year as an homage to the brand's notable history in aviation watches. This is a history that dates back nearly a hundred years, beginning with a Hamilton aeronautical watch accompanying the first American Airmail flight between Washington and New York. By the 30s, Hamilton was the official watch of commercial airlines including TWA, United, and Northwest. This laid the groundwork for military issue timepieces in WWII the second half of the twentieth century, which is the era that provides inspiration for the Khaki Pioneer Pilot we see today.The early 70s is a period we've seen Hamilton draw contemporary parallels before, such as the popular Pan Europe of 2011 . Swatch collector? Any out there?
I know they are cheap and cheerful (or you could bash them as cheap and nasty), but there are some good ones out there, and some interesting limited edition pieces.It has been mentioned many a time that Swatch 'saved' the Swiss Watch industry when it was at it's worst point, by making Swiss made watches stylish and affordable to the general public.So, does anyone at WTF actually collect Swatches? I don't see any posted here in the WOTD threads - is it because they aren't a watch for a 'serious' collector?For anyone who didn't catch the thread I posted some time ago, I had some fun cleaning up a friend's Swatch that he had given to him by a Swiss visitor in the 90's.
