- You just can't find this quality for less $$$. The band is a leather/nylon combo, but it swaps out easily with an all leather (the Timex one from [...] is perfect and about [$]) if you want a dressier appearance.

Breguet 5177ba/12/9v6 wrist watches news:
A simple question from a total watch noob. I was going through some old stuff in my parents basement and stumbled across a few old watches. I found a rolex, and my mother was the kind of person who'd own a real Rolex(malpractice defense attorney). The problem is that I noticed the lens on it is cracked and made of plastic. Seems too cheap of a feature to be on a Rolex, but also it seems it would be too much of a giveaway on a fake since the rest of the watch looks very convincing. Did some Rolex watches come with a plastic lens on it?If it helps, it has a faded sticker on the back with the logo and the number 6917 printed on it. It is a women's "Oyster Perpetual Datejust" with a magnification lens over the date. I should probably get it appraised, but I'd like to save myself the embarrassment of walking in with an obviously fake rolex if that's the case.
The late 1950s were a time of stylistic experimentation. Lots of futuristic themes, rockets, flying saucers, etc. In 1957 (roughly), Elgin launched their 'Horizon Look' watches. These had Wraparound Crystals, which completely covered the front of the watch, creating a unique look. This week's watches will all be from the Horizon Look series. Today's watch is the Lord Elgin Celestial. This was one of my early Elgin acquisitions, and one of those I'm fondest of. This angle shows off the Wraparound Crystal:\\It looks very different from most other watches. The case is white gold filled. The bezel is painted gray with white hour marks, and a white '12', and the dial is a lighter gray, with white hands to match. It's a 'Nite Glo', with dots of lume and, originally, lume on the backs of the hands.Sadly, the paint on the bazel flakes easily - it doesn't seem to want to stick to the gold, especially after 55 years. Most of the ones I've seen on Ebay have this problem. Oh, well. It's run
I have a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master World Geographic as well as a Ulysse Nardin Dual Time 42mm. For travel to 3rd world countries and other more impoverished areas, I was looking for a great travel watch that won't stand out, and isn't quite as expensive. Do you guys have any suggestions? Something that can display at least two times zones and (ideally) incorporates something like the paddle updates for the main face time like the UN would be ideal. Thanks!
A question: Why did you choose Omega? They are rather rare (I often go weeks w/o seeing one, and I live in a big city). Most people dont -appear- to know much about them, though the ads seem to be fairly common. Just curious why you chose one? I love that they are different. To me, wearing one is like driving a Morgan: Those who know, know. Those who don't, stare.Just curious.....
I have started looking for my next watch purchase; which led me to think what would happen to my watches when I was gone or ready to pass them on and how that would influence my purchase. The obvious answer is to buy what you like and enjoy. This is true and definitely part of my decision making process. I like the idea of my daughter (only child and currently only 6ys old) eventually getting and enjoying my watches. Has anyone had similar considerations when deciding what to buy, specifically for a daughter eventually inheriting a watch? Basically I am looking for watch suggestions that are as appealing being worn on a man as on a woman.
