That's right, FREE! If you know this box:Then you know this hat comes in it:Well, I'm giving it away and even covering the shipping (*USPS within the CONUS). Here's how we're running the contest: Answer the 5 questions which can all be ascertained from posts here or with a simple Google search. ***DO NOT POST ANSWERS IN THIS THREAD - PM ME*** For every correct answer, you get one entry in the drawing. All entries must be submitted by 07/21/08 Monday evening 9:00 pm EST....my time in Philadelphia PA, USA. I will put all the entries in a hat (not the Breitling hat - I want that to remain legitimately unused ) and my lovely assistant....I said my lovely assistant....Okay, my lovely and slightly uncooperative assistant will aid with drawing the winner, who will be announced Tuesday. Here's the quiz, and once again all these answers can be found on WTF in recent weeks, or easily by doing minimal research:1) How many vintage Omega Seamaster series watches do I own? (pre 1970; they ca
Well I've had my hamilton Khaki Chrono at my watchmaker for a little while and asked him to replace the crystal (while he was doing a COA). After receiving two generic replacement crystals that don't quite fit properly, he wanted to get one from Swatch Group (or the parts vendor in the states that deals with them) and they won't sell him one. I know they had restricted ETA movements, but didn't realize that they were attempting the same thing with parts. I know why they are doing it, they want to get people to send their watches to the Swatch service centers for any work. I would rather give a watchmaker I know the business, and not have to send it back to Swatch Group. Seems like a very shortsighted business decision. I may be more inclined to buy a different brand if I don't have to deal with that stuff.
Hi everyone, I have really enjoyed the friendly and informative atmosphere here at WTF. It seems to be unparalleled to other similar forums. I inherited the love of time pieces from my grandfather who would show me his Pateks and Langes. When I was recently visiting him to get the contact info on the guy who cleans his watches (I'm sending in my early 60's Seamaster De Ville to get serviced) he showed me this watch that he bough in Holland in the early 90's. I had never heard of the brand before so I naturally thought to see if any of the other watch geeks(endearing term) here knew anything about it. I searched online but could only find a few ebay listings selling the dial, and almost no other info.I do know that it uses the Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement but that is the extent of my knowledge. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks!
So as some of you may have read in my recent thread titled Bit of luck I recently (by some minor miracle) happened upon a brand new, unclaimed 5711 which had arrived at the AD that same morning. I've made the down-payment, and will be paying the remainder in full Friday morning. Before I do, I'd like to get a real, honest sense of what I am getting into in terms of investment. I plan to wear the watch and enjoy it for a very long time to come, of course--but because it's such a chunk-o-cash for me, I'd like to know what you guys think is in store for such a watch in terms of gaining or losing value over time, flip-ablity, etc. I'm used to vintage watches (Rolex in particular), and I know new watches are typically like cars, in that they lose a lot of value after you wear one off the lot. BUT, I also know as a Patek Philippe, and as a SS Nautilus, this watch is anything but typical. Thoughts and comments greatly appreciated!!
I have an opportunity to pick up a 5726 Steel bracelet from an AD or used from a reputable dealer. The difference in buying new is about 6k. What would you do in this case? Buy new sealed or buy used?
