Pre-SIHH: Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph
Greetings from Geneva! SIHH 2012 sees the introduction of a new water-resistant watch inspired by the Memovox Deep Sea: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Deep Sea Vintage Chronograph featuring a 40.5 mm case size similar to that of the Memovox Tribute to Deep Sea, which was a hit at SIHH 2011. A fixed bezel surrounds a classic black dial, protected by a Plexiglas crystal. The hour-markers as well as the central hour and minute hands are covered by a Superluminova with a warm orange-tinted shade reminiscent of the luminescent coating on the 1959 Memovox Deep Sea. The time intervals measured by the two-button chronograph are indicated by two counters for the hours and minutes, positioned at 9 and 3 o¡¯clock, as well as by the central seconds hand. The back of the stainless steel case also bears the same engraved motif as the historical model, depicting a frogman surrounded by bubbles. OK folks, I have a very reliable source who was shown the new dealer price list (could not get a copy) reflecting a substantial increase in Rolex pricing which takes effect in September. As is normal with Rolex, some models will increase in price more than others, but the average increase is supposed to be about 8% - a substantial price increase.Rolex dealers are not allowed to disclose this type of information in advance, so the dealer in question must be kept confidential so as not to incur the wrath of Rolex, and so too must be the source of the information. How Much For a Vintage LeCoultre Chrono?
I'm not actually asking what a vintage LeCoultre chrono would cost today but rather how much did a LeCoultre Chrono cost back in the early 70s?I ask because I just watched Electra Glide in Blue starring Robert Blake (1973) and they show a close up of his watch and it's a LeCoultre chronograph and from what I know about LeCoultre, I find it difficult to believe that a rookie motorcycle cop in Arizona could afford one.
