The following timepiece auction analysis post is by Chris Meisenzahl. He is a long-time watch enthusiast and daily Speedmaster Pro wearer. He blogs at The Pretense of Knowledge and can be followed on Twitter at twitterwatches-dealer/speedmasterwatches-dealering up on November 13th the good folks at??Antiquorum will host the latest "Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces" auction. This one is to be held at The Mandarin Oriental in Geneva. The highlight and star of the event is clearly the "Patek Philippe full 24-hour repeating, quarter and special-type five-minute repeating 24-hours in one revolution" pocket watch, circa 1894. This will be no small event, the catalog lists over 600 items.I know that most Pateks are too tame by Paneristi standards, and I guess the standards of many sports-watch fans, but I can't get enough of Patek. e??”ėThis Patek described above is one of those over-the-top vintage pieces that we see as the cornerstone of every large auction."the recently discovered
Still in Japan now, but I need to keep up the blogging else my loyal readers may violently demand I continue to write. I miss being at the computer, no worries about long pauses in content. While on my trip a reader pointed out this eBay auction for an interesting piece of watch and photographic history. It is the Stienbeck Kamerawerk A-B-C Camera watch from 1949. A fully functional worn on the wrist made over 50 years ago. I will republish a bit from the auction details to give you some of the nuts and bolts of this interesting item the banks on our love of spy gear, watches, and what looks to be a bit of the ol' steampunk aesthetic.I would call it a spy camera watch, but it was not meant to look like a regular watch. It was just a special wrist mounted camera that looked a lot like a watch. While it is hard to find the right film for it, it was made so that film from regular 35mm rolls of film could be used to make film for it. The watch for sale should still work, and is certainly a
The German dive watch company NauticFish is an offshoot of the larger Schaumburg/Lindburgh & Benson watch group. A few years ago, the brand was set up as vehicle for more aggressive German watches that complimented, but did not necessarily compete with the popular Schaumburg line of diving watches. The first NauticFish watches were actually little more than rebranded Scahumburg watches with minor changes. Currently, NauticFish watches have their own special character, but that did not occur over night. Over the last few years, little design changes resulted in the current product, of which many are nice hybrid designs between the appealing look of Schaumburg dive watches and the NauticFish style. The first changes appeared on the face with the hand and number indicators, then the bezel treatment, and other items changed as well. This particular watch represents a halfway point from what NauticFish used to be, and what it is today. Notice the same bezel as on Schaumburg watches, but w
I am thinking that I would like to add to my collection a watch that I didn't have to wind and set before wearing and so was thinking of a quartz. But I was struck with the thought that a Seiko Kinetic would also fit the bill. If I am correct, once fully charged they will run for years without further charging, yes?So I am after suggestions. This is to be a watch I can wear to work and "good casual" kinds of things. I like divers but probably have enough. I like a complication or two on watches but don't want it to be too busy. Maybe a chrono, maybe a power reserve indicator, maybe GMT. Oh, and not too expensive or hard to get a hold of.So, any suggestions? And please, lots of pics!!
