Historical Perspectives: Revisiting The History Of The Omega Speedmaster With The Astronauts Who Wore Them
The official status of Omega’s Speedmaster Professional as that of “Moonwatch” is widely known and celebrated amongst enthusiasts and certainly by Omega themselves. Unlike many brand partnerships, the relationship between Omega and NASA has yielded real, tangible benefits, with the Speedmaster itself making appearances in each of the manned missions to the Moon, and even contributing to one of the greatest dramas of the 20th century, helping the astronauts of Apollo 13 return safely to Earth after an oxygen tank explosion two days into the mission. To gain a more personal perspective on this relationship, Omega sent us to NASA headquarters in Houston, where we had access to astronauts Jim Lovell (Gemini 7, 12; Apollo 8, 13) and Tom Stafford (Gemini 6A, 9A; Apollo 10; ASTP). The openworked Royal Oak has been around for years, but the originator of this line could be 2010's 15305. Then, we saw in 2012 and 2014 respectively, the traditional 39 mm Jumbo get "openworked" in platinum and rose gold. Now, we see the current 41 mm Royal Oak, reference 15400 openworked for the first time, but with a brand new double-balance wheel escapement that is a world's first! 1 OF 4 Now AP has produced a few very high-end watches in the past that used two balance springs, but not two balance wheels. They include the Millenary Quadriennium and Millenary Minute Repeater with AP Escapement. The thinking here is that having two balance wheels creates an oscillator with more mass, ensuring great stability – why, for example, you see huge oscillators in marine chronometers. So my PO is about a month old. When I first got it, it was +20-+25. It settled down to a nice +2 - +3 for a couple weeks. I did a test last night and now it's +10 (worn most of the day then sat flat over night). I don't really want to send it in for warranty yet and I guess it's better fast than slow, but,

Just changing the time on my mechanical chronograph, and my daughter, a bright and inquisitive 12 year old, pointed out that it was broken as the second hand was frozen. As I corrected her and told her that the hand wasn't actually the second hand but the seconds pointer for the chrono, she said "Huh, it's just trying to be like a digital stopwatch, that's silly - why would you use that?!?"Problem is I couldn't really argue with her! INCOMING: Nice Tissot after christmas present from myself!
Got a little bit of christmas money so I decided to pick up this little beauty used on a whim. The seller claimed it was a Limited Run, number 164 of 264, but I'm pretty sure L164/264 is the model.It's a Tissot LeLocle L164/264. Not sure how old it is, but I can't find much info on it. The current offering LeLocle doesn't look much like it. A quick google search found a stainless steel version on a black strap.Here are the seller's pics:
