In America we get upset at the notion that cool objects are sold elsewhere and not here. We have had to deal with this for years in terms of cars, electronics, and especially watches. Japanese companies such as Citizen and Seiko are well known in the US, but don't exactly have the prestige that Swiss watches have. Regardless, in Japan these companies service the low-end and high-end markets equally.I'd say that most of the interesting watches that Citizen makes are never officially sold in the US. They are made in limited numbers and sold in places all over Japan. The market there seems to gobble up limited edition pieces that appeal only to a select few. Well some of these have much wider appeal in my opinion, and you should know about at least some of them. Are remakes, re-releases, somehow less than legitimate?
O.K., here's something I've always had in the back of my mind, and, after reading this, I'm sure many of you will think it should have stayed there...How do you view, re-releases or remakes of classic watch designs? Hamilton has maintained many of its classic, history-making designs over the years. But, is a re-release, remake, or even a modern interpretation of a classic watch design somehow less legitimate because it's not one of the originals? Is a Ventura not really a Ventura unless it came from between 1957 and 1969? Are any of the American Classic series or the Piping Rock re-releases less legitimate than their forefathers, either because of their modern origins or their quartz movements?Some of this is a very emotionally driven perspective. I'll give you that, from a strict collector's standpoint, an original, historical piece, will have greater value and collect-ability than a re-release. Airking 116900 should I sell ???
I have an Airking and Milgauss Black Dial and have to sell one. The Airking is less then a year old and growing on me but seems to be unpopular.I know its subjective but the New Airking seems to be unusual and a slightly less traditional Rolex but would appreciate other members opinions of the the new 116900 model and if they like it . If not what would they choose.I appreciate your response.
