Anyone make their own winder?
I'm interested in making my own watch winder. I'm wondering if anyone has ever attempted such a task. I'm liking what I see online, but am thinking about making it myself. Just received my X-Wind!
Yup.One gripe I have is that I find that the crosswind bezel numbers (both interior bezels) are very small and hard to read. This is all academic because I would have absolutely no occasion, opportunity or interest in calculating the effect of crosswinds on the bearing of my aircraft!I would like to know if the bezels could be used to calculate other things that might be more useful to me (being a regular joe and all). For example, the circular slide rule of a Navitimer can be used to calculate currency exchange rates, which seems like a decent use of it.Also, I noticed that the steel of the bracelet and the steel of the case do not have the same tone (the case being a slight bit grayer, while the bracelet has a warmer tinge to it). This doesn't bother me too much, just an observation. Does anyone else notice the same things on their x-winds?One other thing, I went to a local jewellery shop to have some links taken out of the bracelet. The store charged me $30.00 , saying that bec

This was an interesting auction:cgi.ebay/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ht_6232wt_1167It's a very nice watch, probably from the 60's or early 70's with a caliber 885. I track as many of these as I can on eBay because I own the predecessor to this watch. What's interesting is that up until recently these usually sold for $750 - $900 and the average selling price was in the low $800 range. Vintagehamiltons and I watched one many months ago sell for in this neighborhood also. However, this is the 2nd one in the last few months to sell for over $1000. This one is nearly pristine, and if you look at the pictures the black dot near the 3:00 indice is obviously on the crystal and not the dial - you can tell by how it seems to change locations at different angles in the pictures. The last one was an obvious redial (we discussed it back in the summer) and sold for $1100. Granted, gold has increased so that's some of the reason. 16618 help needed!
A buddy of mine recently purchased this watch. We got together to check it out today, and there are a few puzzling things, especially with the bracelet. Serial x745xxx. On the inside of the end links it is stamped 46b. There are no stamps on the back of the bracelet, like on some other watches. I'm fairly certain the links screws have been tack welded in with gold. I'm also confused about the back of the case being stamped 18k. The magnification of the date is magnified, but not prominent either. This is my first hands on with a full 18k watch. Is it right, or do I have to break horrific news to my friend?
