Introducing: The Seiko FUGAKU Limited Edition Tourbillon
In what was, in general, a somewhat subdued Baselworld, and one in which we saw more incremental improvements than spectacular debuts, there were still a few new product introductions that really stood out. One of the most memorable, and certainly one of the most unexpected, was from Seiko: the FUGAKU Tourbillon, a limited edition of eight pieces. This is nothing less than Seiko's very first in-house tourbillon (for that matter, Seiko's first tourbillon of any kind) and both the technical inventiveness of the FUGAKU, as well as its colorful interpretation of a famous work of art ¨C The Great Wave Off Kanagawa, by the Edo-period artist known as Hokusai ¨C caught many of us off guard, and challenged, once again, our notion of what to expect from Seiko. Scored a 16710a w/3186 movement..
After passively looking for a blue-black 16710 with a 3186 movement, I found a 16710A M-series at a Rolex AD located in Carmel, California. This was the only AD whom I called who knew of the 3186 movement in the classic 16710 case. I fitted my 16710A with a sapphire caseback in order to watch the Paracrom Blu hairspring. Changing the 24hour hand was smooth, just like the 3186 movement in my Rolex 116710. These 3186'ed 16710 watches have a A and B designation. "A" is for a Red-Black bezel and "B" is for Blue-Red.The image above shows the watch face with the Arabic II in the watch face, and the bottom pictures show the Paracrom Blu hairspring and balance through the sapphire caseback.This watch offers a classic, tool watch case, with forward thinking, modernized, movement. In my mind, this watch offers both classic and current Rolex style and technology. Basel watches traveling to Omega boutiques
Just received a phone call from a sales associate at an Omega Boutique and I was informed all of the watches displayed at Basel 2014 will be traveling around the boutiques in Europe and USA this summer. The 300m, Mark II, Tresor, ect...will be under one roof. For those of you in the Midwest USA, the watches will be in Oakbrook IL on July 29th and July 30th. It's my understanding the watches will be in the stores during normal business hours and one does not need an invitation to attend, although invitations will most likely be sent to individuals that have made previous purchases. I was also told that the watches, while stored in displays cases, will be available for people to try on. Perfect excuses for us WIS to organize a gtg around our respective Omega Boutiques. Keep an eye out for a Chicago gtg in the gtg forum.

Omega "Reverse" Speedy Panda 32105100
A few months ago I was searching high and low for an Omega Speedy Panda. I went in to the Omega boutique here in Beverly Hills just to try one on and to my surprise the watch was not easy to read. (Old man eyes! ) First of all 40mm does not help, then the white background also did not help. Then I saw the reverse Panda, black with white dials and magic! I soon a good deal and now an Omega Speedmaster (32105100) is in the collection.
