Arrived: Elgin Shockmaster with a NOS dial
The watch came with radium burned dial¨Cnot bad, but when I came across a NOS dial, I knew I had to replace it.The case is stainless steel, number 5918. It is in really nice shape, with the brush marks still intact.The movement is something I haven¡¯t seen before (pretty sure it is common), a Swiss, Elgin branded 17 jewel, 630 movement.As I noted, the dial had radium burns, but the hands didn¡¯t seem to be lumed. When I installed the new watch, I noticed the the back of the hands were lumed, accounting for the burn. Repairing Chinese Automatics
Several years ago I discovered Ebay. Long story short, I went on a seemingly high value-for-money spree which has now left me with two watches in need of repair: one is Dodo-Dead and the other loses two hours every minute (seriously!). Not a single UK establishment of any kind will touch them: "unavailability of spare parts" and "not cost-effective" are just two soundbytes I've come to abhor. It's a watch. Probably one gear loose causing all this grief! They refuse to even take a look. What to do everybody? Give in to this punishment for my rash purchases, or is there a way to get them fixedCheers.

Great News on the Service of my 5402SA!!! Now in Le Brassus!!
I know I've been away for weeks as I've been extremely busy with work and traveling every week. After all the drama on my 5402SA and the APSC in Florida back in February, I asked them to send my watch directly to the manufacture in Le Brassus. I am so glad I did!I just got the estimate and everything that needs to be done will cost way less than what Clearwater had quoted me. The new estimate $2762 vs. $4398. Isn't this just ridiculous! I guess they need some properly trained watchmakers down in FL to do better assessments on the condition of timepieces. Something else that is just great is that they also offered case and bracelet refinishing. Can't wait to see what my puppy will look like when I get it back. Yay!!!Any way, just very happy with the news and wanted to share!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk. Watches are the new currency!
