I think it¡¯s time for the hard-core mechanical watch enthusiast to give their ¡°distant cousin¡± - quartz watches - a little more respect. I guess in my own way, I¡¯m as guilty as the next guy, when it comes to comparing mechanical watches to quartz watches. When I was in the watch repair business, I flatly refused to take in quartz watches, and felt it below my standards as a watchmaker to change a battery in a quartz watch. I felt that quartz watches would make watchmakers obsolete, and in a way it actually did.In the 1970s and 1980s, the population of watchmakers, particularly in the USA, dropped off to ¡°endangered species¡± numbers. If it had been 20 years later, you¡¯d have college kids chaining themselves to Macy¡¯s Department store, demanding that we ¡°save the watchmakers.¡± This snobbery carried into the 1990s, and the new breed of watch enthusiasts looked down their collective noses at quartz watches. Kinda silly question.. how to wind my spitfire?
So I have a few automatic watches but this is my first IWC.. I don't want to ruin anything so I think it's better to ask.. How do I know if the watch is in the screw or wind setting? I feel the watch making alot of noise/resistance when trying to be wound if I have the right setting. Is this normal? Thanks!

5980/1A Availability
I know this is a long shot given it's discontinued now, but is it possible to find a white 5980/1A new from an AD? Anyone have any leads they could send my way? Really love the piece but wife is adamant about AD only, so this one may be out unless an AD's got one in the safe somewhere.Many thanks in advance and apologies if asking for help finding one is taboo, please feel free to delete if so!

Nautilus blue dials
Hi all, as a few already know I have a 5712-1A, and honestly I have never seen in real any other blue dial Nautilus, well apart from the 2 tome 5980, but it has a very special kind of blue, which to my knowledge no other Nautilus has, except for maybe the 5711P, but I still think they are different since I don't see any high end watch maker putting a platinum blue on a SS watch, and when I look at the Patek website, on pics the 5712 blue has nothing to do with the other blue Nautilus dials, so was wondering, is it just the pics which give this impression and is the 5712 blue the same as the 5711, 5980 blues of the SS models or is it really different? For those who haven't noticed I invite you to look on the Patek site and the difference is clear, at least on pics.Thanks in advance for your insights and helping develop my Patek culture, yes I know I am just at the beginning of the road there is still a long journey ahead but as much as I know about Patek since I am a child, I never had
