Ever since the smartwatch became a thing, I have been preaching that companies need to pool their resources and talents to create something that consumers want. A new type of smartwatch platform called MMT (Manufacture Modules Technologies) was just announced out of partnership between a series of companies both in Switzerland and in Silicon Valley. This isn't a big deal just because it means the small but crowded smartwatch market has a new face, but because, in my opinion, it represents a wise step in the right direction of how the Swiss luxury watch industry needs to integrate itself into the smartwatch world. Welcome to the MMT electronic watch movement family and the Horological Smartwatch.Peter Stas, CEO of Fr¨¦d¨¦rique Constant / Alpina, wearing the Fr¨¦d¨¦rique Constant Horological Smartwatch Reference FC-285V5B4Who is behind MMT? I thought it was really ironic to learn that Mondaine's US operation was located near where I live in the San Francisco Bay area. What are the odds? When I met with their people at the JCK show in Las Vegas a few months ago, I got to check out some of their new timepieces, and caught a few on camera. Sorry about any blurriness, but it adds to the candid nature of the shots right? Mondaine is a popular Swiss watch company that is best known for their official Swiss Railways watch. Aside from that, they have a multitude of nice offerings at reasonable prices. Part of this has to do with their high volume production that helps them keep prices down. Two of the best things that Mondaine does are its cases and the dials. You really get impressed but the quality of these parts in relation to the price. I did a full review on one of my favorite watches of theirs, which was the Mondaine Railway Chrono Sport II, which you can read here. Actually, I've seen a few names for the same watch, but you
OK, got a small dilemma & want the experts inputsI'm looking for a new watch for my father. He'll be retiring within the next few years (probably 18 - 24 mo.) and when he does I want to give him a new watch. He's been at the same company for over 45 years & looking forward to retirement & fishing.. He's NOT a WIS-guy & won't know one brand from another. He does like gold-toned watches, but goes thru them every few years due to the plating wearing off. He wears his watch for almost everything, from yard-work to fishing to work. Here's a few criteria:18k yellow gold. He doesn't care for steel, white gold or platinum. Nor the rose gold.MUST have an 18k bracelet. He doesn't like straps, and a plated bracelet will not last.A classic round look. He doesn't like radical or short-term styles.37 or 38mm's. He can't wear anything larger than 38, maybe 39mm's.Something GOOD As this is a retirement present I want it to last.NO Complications, other than a date & maybe
Hi,I am brand new to the AP brand, tried some on yesterday and wow, I fell in love!!I love the rose gold Royal oak with leather strap, but I think a better starting point would be a Royal Oak Offshore - lower entry price and better daily watch for my lifestyle. I love the rubber strap on a premium watch, very cool.So I am now considering a few models, the new navy dial + navy strap 26470 - which I have found for ?14k for a brand new one.The others are the 26170 Navy and the 26170 Panda - both costing about ?10k for a used one.So I have a couple of questions.(1) Does anyone have any experience of using this new navy ROO? I tried it on yesterday and it looked amazing, but I had a blue t-shirt and jeans on, so naturally it matched perfectly! I just wonder when using other colour clothes if the blue ends up clashing or if it still looks just as good? How easy is it to use basically I want to know, as I intend to use it as my daily watch and put my YG GMT-IIC to rest for special occasions.(
