And yet another new guy
Hey guys pretty new here to this forum but I've lurked around and its cooler then some other watch sites I've been to. I never signed up with them. By way of introduction I started my watch interest almost 20 years ago. It started by taking apart an old mechanical wrist watch I found in a drawer at my parents'. IIRC it was called Hirsch on the dial. "nurse watch" I got it running and then snapped a stem on the balance wheel taking it a part and putting it back together again IIRC. Back then in the Chicago Trib there would always be these ads for watches I'd never heard of w/B&W pictures. One was of a IWC with all these extra dials (portofino) it looked so cool I had y wife call the jeweler and ask about it. They said it was IIRC $8K w/t strap an $12K maybe with the bracelet. She asked how late they were opened on Saturdays! We didn't but a few weeks later I got a catalog from the same store in conjunction with American Express. Tag 1000 Repair - New Dial Feet
Hi AllMy Tag 1000 which has been going strong since the mid-80s has finally had its first major issue. The face has slipped round in the case. When I pull out the crown I can still adjust the time / date, albeit the date seems to be a little off center. This is an early 980.13N model.Based on some research in the forum it sounds like the dial feet have broken or possibly the stem although I think it is the former. See picture below.tag.jpgI spoke to the local repair shop and they said they dont do these repairs as soldering new feet discolors the face or gluing causes problems. They suggested buying a new dial (not so easy) and then they would repair for $75-$100. I would like to keep original face and avoid theese high costs of dial and repair. My Brain Almost Exploded-Part II
Well, today the wife and I spent about 2 hours in the aforementioned antique shop. Of course I made my way over to the guy with the watches.Now, I didn't have the $$$ to buy any watches, but it was a very productive day nonetheless. He was talking to a gentleman whom I presume to be in his 40's and appeared to be very knowledgable about watches. This gentleman immediately struck up a conversation with me, and I learned he does all the repairs/restoration for the older gentleman selling the watches. I asked him about my Bulova and why it won't turn clock-wise when I set it. He explained to me the very possible reason and said he could fix it for $25. I then asked him if he does complete service work. He said he could completely service mine, fix the crown problem and put a new crystal on for $100. I was a little skeptical, so he asked me to come up front to a box he had brought in. In it, he had abour 8 or 9 vintage watches, all pritinely restored! He said "This is my work". Every watch

Speedmaster dilemma
Hoping to solicit opinions on my dilemma. I am 99% set on a speedmaster and have it narrowed down to 1. Original Moonwatch. 2. White dial racing speedmaster, 44mm3. 57 speedmasterMy thoughts so far are1. First Omega, start with an icon. Size is pretty perfect.2. Never had a manual wind, not sure how I good I would be at remembering to wind3. Racing 44mm pictured below if I figured out how to attach them, is about at or beyond the upper size limits for me, though my picture is bad. I wasn't planning on posting them. In the metal, this made my heart beat fastest however and if it was 40 or 42 mm I would already own it.4. Automatic movement and date function are pros for me, as well as increased durability with Crystal, ceramic, etc5. Love the throwback but haven't seen it in the metal. I have two vintage Rolex, a 16800 sub and 1655 explorer ii so I love patina, not sure how I feel about the faux patina look however.6. The white dial 40 mm racing speedmaster variants do not do it for
