Hello, Just wanted to say hi, since I got me a black PVD Below Zero last night at my favorite local AD.I've been a Hamilton fan for a while nowI've always liked the Ventura since I saw Elvis wearing one in Blue Hawaii...then MIB came out....but it took me LE auto to get into Ventura, then rose gold anniv.I actually bought 2 rose gold ventura, I gave MOP lady's ventura and rose gold LE to my sister-in-law's wedding present. Anyways, nice to meet you guys! candycandy
I dont know why but he says it out of fashion and a person should get a Rolex Submariner or something like that. oooh well it all depends on the taste. Here is the article:Watch Snob: Stop Wearing Panerai - AskMen
Not that it really matters, but is there a difference between vintage and old?For instance, I have a watch that I bought in the late 1980's, and I'd have a hard time considering it vintage. Same with one I received as a gift in 1972, and one I bought in '95.So, is vintage versus old more about being made before a certain year, or is it more about being representative of the time in which it was made? I'm interested in starting a vintage collection, and to me that means I'd like to get watches from each decade of the 20th century that are identifiable as a style of its era.Maybe I just have a hard time considering something I received new as vintage, 'cause it makes me feel old...
Hey all, I'm looking at buying a used Omega Speedmaster caliber 1140 from a private owner here in Toronto. The watch doesn't come with box or papers and hasn't been serviced for 3-4 years. The owner wants $1250 for it which seems like a pretty good deal. I've done some research on the watch itself (the movement and caliber) and am skeptical about the chrono module because apparently it cannot be serviced, only replaced. So let me know what you guys think in regards to the price and this specific model of Speedmaster.
In a jewelry store this weekend to replace wedding rings (both of which have gone MIA at various times in the past year; thankfully we found her engagement ring. How I found it is a story about pizza...) for me and Mrs emd; going to be a surprise birthday present for her.Anyway, this store had a fair amount of Rolexes in the case and they arrested the eye.It occurred to me that I've reached a place in my life where I could slap down the plastic and walk with one and not be pinched paying the bill so you can say the bug to have a nice watch or two has bit me. It also occurred to me that having a pair of great watches would mean each son would get Dad's watch when I pass on so that's pretty attractive as well. This store in question isn't listed as an authorized dealer on Rolex's web site and I've found other stores that have pre-owned Rolexes as well, but ADs seem to be thin on the ground here in central and SE Virginia. This fact has me in a bit of a pickle since it seems like asking fo
