Harwood, Original Maker Of The Automatic Wrist Watch Resurfaces: Look Past Lukewarm Looks For Interesting Designs
If you ever wanted to know who the original maker of the automatic wrist watch was, it was Harwood, a British watch company. They didn't invent the automatic winding mechanism, that was done previously in pocket watches, but they were the first to bring them to the wrist watch with a patent in 1924. Founder, John Harwood was a soldier in World War 1 and a watch maker. He wanted to create a watch that could withstand the elements better, as well as make it more convenient. He understood that constantly winding a hand-wound watch exposed it to lots of dust and other types of wear. Thus, it seemed an obvious solution to bring automatic winding via an internal rotor to the wrist watch. The design of which needed to be miniaturized and modified to work best on the wrist, rather than the pocket. The White Moonwatch is finally complete.
Took me a while to get the pieces to this beautiful project. 3573 with a (off) white dial / black hand mod. All on a black croc strap and a satin deployant. Call it a franken-Speedy--but I've been craving this look and it's finally complete. Couldn't be more pleased. Enjoy. I fancy a different kind of Panerai
When Mrs Van D is away, a naughty Ruud will play. I would love one of these on my desk, I mean who wouldn’t? An absolute complete, utter waste of money but, and it’s a huge but with a capital B, they’ve just had a price adjustment. Yep, against the current trend of increases, these babies have dropped by about 40% and they’re down to S$4,300 (¡ê2,350 US$3,170). Alas, Mrs Van D has put the blockers on a purchase. If she comes out to Singapore in four weeks and finds one of these in the house then she’ll pull down my Alan’s and grab my Jacob’s and drag them over my head! The California dial is my favourite (651, I think). So, worth the risk?
