Help trying to get info on a rare ELGIN POCKET WATCH
hello all .. i am new to this site and dont know if this is were i should post this but here goes i have a old elgin pocket watch i think 1920 Railroad Watchi have been looking at e-bay and on the net for a long time now and i cant seem to find anything on this model .. there are a few close to it but not the same ...i live in a small town so not too many place to bring it to ...i think it is a rear model as i have found a lot of them but none are like this one what i have found out is from the watch it's self {see pics} B. Strap recommendations for Calatrava 5127G-001
I have a white gold 5127 on a black strap that the dealer sent for free (because original was a little long).Unfortunately, the strap seems to have lost its shine and I would like something a little nicer.Do you guys have a recommendation on what kind of straps might look good on this watch and perhaps nice third party strap makers?

Advice on how to buy a Patek
Hello,I am looking to buy a Patek for myself fairly soon... probably a ?20k-?30k model depending which model I decide to go for, deciding between the more dressy sans-complication, calatrava or a slightly less elegant, but more exciting annual calendar.I saw that a couple of retailers can sell to me tax-free (20% VAT taken off) so long as I am having it shipped to an address in Switzerland, which I could do... though it would be a hassle as I live and work in London! Alternatively Watches of Switzerland offer interest free finance for up to 3yrs... which on a ?20k watch is quite valuable and is more convenient for me. I always buy my Rolexes in the 2nd hand market, but the market doesn't seem to be so big for Patek... not the newer models in any case, and the discounts are not even that great.As such I'm looking for advice of the best way to purchase a Patek, go for the VAT-free way, take interest free credit or try and sit it out for a used deal to come up... or indeed any other solut

Day Date: Older platinum 36 vs new WG 40?
Hello all,This is my third post, and I already greatly appreciate the insights you all have provided. I¡¯ve narrowed my decision making to the point that I¡¯ve decided that I¡¯d like to purchase a Day Date and really prefer the platinum with the blue dial. My wrist is about 6.5¡±, and I think the 36 will be fine for me. On the other hand, my old DJ sometimes seems a bit small, and I once owned a Daytona that seemed like a good fit. So, I¡¯m open to a range of sizes. My budget will be in the $25-30k range, and that looks pretty appropriate for finding what I want in a 36mm platinum. As I look at the market, I see examples ranging from 10-16 years old. My question is how much difference a few years will make? Is 6 years newer worth another $6K if they are the same model number? Am I not thinking about some sort of high service costs that would be right around the corner?
