[youtube youtubewatches-dealer/watch?v=RxrKyRarm4s]Much ink has been spilled when it comes to comparing wristwatches and cars, and it's an analogy I myself have drawn in articles. Most times, though, that comparison has been in one direction. ??A video we found from Cadillac shows us the comparison can actually be a two-way street. The video is really a PR bit for the design influences for Cadillac's new XTS model. While they call out other industries, it was very intriguing to hear them deliberately reference the watch industry - specifically, the luxury end of the market. Frankly, it's not a big leap to make, in either direction. Though it is interesting because historically (and still today) the watch industry very much borrows from automotive design when dreaming up new models. It is interesting to hear how the automotive industry is now in turn, looking to the watch industry. When it comes to a high-end car, we look for many of the same things we expect from a high-end watch. Every watch guy's dream is to go up into his grandparents' attic, open up a dust covered shoe box, and discover an unmolested horological masterpiece. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. And that is exactly what happened here with what could easily be described as a mega watch - a Patek Philippe Reference 1436 Split-Seconds Chronograph Retailed By Tiffany & Co. in NYC dating to 1960. And, what makes this particular piece so special is that it is literally untouched and unmodified in any way. It comes with the original crystal, strap, and buckle, and the thing hadn't even been serviced!Made in 1960 and sold by Tiffany's NYC in 1961, it doesn't get much cooler than a vintage Patek split-seconds chronograph. There is something so masculine about the split complication, and to see it on such a refined piece like a 1960s Patek is just a wonderful juxtaposition. The estimate on this piece is $200,000-$300,000, which to us, considering the condition, se
A friend of mine from France just sent me the link to a black-and-white movie about Hamilton from 1947.Enjoy watching it.
I am thinking of replacing my very rough bezel/bezel insert on my latest Speedmaster (see 3rd photo down) It is a pre moon model 145022-69 (from early 1969) I have an option to buy a couple of bezels which supposedly are for this vintage but one has a hyphen over the first E in TACHYMETRE and the other one does not (see photos)The current bezel I have on does not have the hyphen and I am assuming it is the original so obviously I want to replace with the same, anyone know when this hyphen came in please, thanks.
