Just arrived: Lord Elgin 760 American made automatic
Just got it today. The watch itself is in great shape. The rolled gold is all there, minor scratches of course, but not dents, dings, or scrapes. The case back has a few scratches, but it is in good shape and crystal only has a few scratches as well.The movement is Elgin's American made 760 self winding movement with 30 jewels. The watch runs and it winds via movement and the rotor. Unfortunately, you can't wind with the crown. Genejockey alluded to this ailment on his blog, GeneJockey's Elgin Watch Blog: Technological Marvel, or Lemon?If I'm reading his advice correctly, he suggests just letting the rotor do the work. After eight hours, it is still running and right on time.For some reason, my iPhone makes it look like the hands and dial are dirty. I'm seriously considering ordering the Ocean 1 black in 42mm. I have read a lot of good reviews but was wonder if anyone had any personal experience. They have a sale going on until Jan 30-31 so I want to decide quickly.I don't want to be disappointed in comparing it to my Omega, or Hammy, but am I correct in assuming its a good tough watch, better than my Seiko divers?I really like the classic simple look of it and, quite frankly will never be able to afford a Rolex and most likely never another Seamaster.

Acquiring my first Patek - question
Hello Patek lovers,I own mostly Rolex but have been enamored by Patek for a couple of years now. The piece that really speaks to me is the Nautilus 5711 in stainless. Unfortunately I am slowly finding out the more I inquire it is some kind of a unicorn piece, very hard to come by. This is a big investment for me and I want to try to purchase a brand new piece. My question to you Patek lovers and collectors out there is two-fold:1. Is there a way I could try to purchase a new piece within the US without waiting more than a few years say?2. If I had to pass on the 5711 due to lack of availability, would there be another piece that exhibits similar design characteristics within the say $30,000 price range?Thanks in advance for your time.Bharat
