Last night I was reading my favorite watch magazine out of England - QP. There is a great article on Journe and his history. I saw that he always enters one of his watches in the Swiss chronometer contest - the contest for accuracy in mechanical watches. Over the years, I've seen many posts about mechanical watches and how it is not important to some that they are accurate. I have a couple watches that are just blinged-out, pure gold or something. There are times I like to wear them just for show. But for the most part, I can't respect a watch that does not do its main job well - and that is accurately accounting for the time.Recently, I have fallen back in love with my old Rolex date/just. And that is because I found out that if I keep this watch wound tight, it keeps excellent time. I have written about this in another post. If I just wear it like any other auto, it is not that impressive - about 8 seconds off per day. But if I keep it wound up by physically winding the me
I like the new Planet Oceans. I was thinking about buying the 8500 with orange bezel but I think I prefer the new one which is more subtle and also interested to see how the rubber aspect works. I also like the new numerals and the ceramic dial which gives the dial a translucent effect like the LM LE. Looking forward to seeing it for real.
After looking at the new releases, I can't help but feel that the GMT-Master II line is a little bit bloated. There are now 9 models in the collection and I am beginning to notice a little bit of redundancy. Don't get me wrong, I like having options and I think the new Pepsi bezel on Jubilee is a great release, but it seems like the collection has no focus. We have three steel watches which (as far as we know now) does not allow options for bracelets. We still have anniversary collection themes with the green hints running through half the line, and the other half entirely novel. We have two two-tone options. And lastly, the WG GMT-Master II was given a blue dial (which no one is talking about). It just seems like this is a collection in transition and hasn't been fully realized yet. Rather that release models here and there across lines, I sometimes wish Rolex just redid entire collections at once like brands such as IWC. Just my opinion. I really like the new stainless GMT-
