WatchTime Announces New Editor-in-Chief; Thompson to Become Editor-at-Large
Beginning March 1, 2016, longstanding WatchTime Editor-in-Chief Joe Thompson will assume his new role as Editor-at-Large. Mr. Thompson steps down as Editor-in-Chief after a successful 16-year run at the magazine¡¯s helm, and he will remain with the publication as a writer and reporter in a part-time capacity. Blending passion for watches and the watch industry with journalistic integrity and in-depth reporting, Joe Thompson helped establish WatchTime Magazine as the gold standard in specialized international watch magazines. I had been on the hunt for a few months now for my first dress watch in a precious metal, and after considering options like the A. Lange and Sohne Saxonia and Vacheron Constantin Patrimony, I finally decided on the iconic Patek Philippe Calatrava 5119J in yellow gold with the Clous de Paris or hobnail bezel. I also briefly considered the Calatrava 5120 with the micro-rotor calibre 240, but I preferred the slightly larger size of the 5119, the shape of the hands and the petite seconds subdial, which add a bit of visual interest to the otherwise austere dial.I visited many Patek Philippe authorized dealers, both within the United States and in Europe, and while many had the 5119 in rose gold, none had the yellow gold version in stock, and most were quoting a waiting period of about 6 months to a year. Evening All,Before setting out my two questions below, I just wanted to say how fabulous this forum is. I've been a fan of the brand for many years, and have yet to pull the trigger on my first. I'm in no way torn as to which one, as the clue is in the title. As seasoned Rolex owners, buyers, and sellers: (1) do you think it's possible as a newbie to buy a SS SD in blue or black for RRP right now, or even in the next three months?(2) do you think the SS SD will become more affordable--meaning RRP-- in the next 12 months, or do you think the watch will go the way of the SS Daytona and require joining a waiting list?I ask because I have called many AD's on the East Coast (I'm based in VA), and no-one seems to have any.
