This Week's Theme; 15/0 size Lord Elgins
For this week, I've decided to go with the 15/0 size Lord Elgin watches. The 15/0 movements were introduced in 1938 (according to the old Elgin Database), while the Lord Elgin series of watches were introduced in about 1937. The Lord Elgins were 21j watches at a time when other wristwatches were 17j at most. They came in gold filled and solid gold cases, and were Elgin's top of the line. From 1937 till about 1955, the Lord Elgins had either a round 8/0 movement or the tonneau-shapped 15/0 movement.Today's model is this one from 1938:The dial has been refinished, incorrectly. The Durapower mainspring was not introduced until 1946, so this watch should have a star, instead of the 'dp' logo. My wife and I had our first baby a few days ago and I also received my 5711 last week as well. Funny story, I was wearing my 5711 in the hospital and our obgyn came in to see the baby gave us congrats then proceeded to say let me have a look at that gorgeous nautilus!We chatted for a bit and found out he has a few Ap, Rolex, Panerai but wants to add a nautilus soon. Wis are everywhere!
