In July 2011, I took my GMT-C along with a Rubber B strap to spend 7 days on the Grand Canyon floor. I chose to take a Rubber B because on an earlier two day trip four years ago, I noticed pitting in the clasp from the gritty Colorado River water. Some of you may remember this poor watch from last year:Project Watch Club: JLC reference 2285Well, it's back and looking primo:Okay, enough teasing.movement and wrist shots to come when I take it to Sam to have the strap installed. This one was a very satisfying rescue. Am I allowed to say I'm smitten without sounding like I'm bragging? To be right up front, there is no way I'd recoup my investment but we'll get to the money portion later. I wondered if I should have the dial refinished at JLC and thought maybe the watch would look better without the cross hair pattern - maybe a bit less dated. Aquanaut Toughness?
How tough is the Aquanaut?I was a long-time wannabe PP owner until I finally bought a 5127J last year. After owning just Rolex watches, I've wanted that Calatrava for a while because I think it is very refined. Now I have the sickness. PP's are worse than Lay's. You know you can't have just one. I was/am a Rolex wearer and own several. I've slowly started giving them away to family members. Now that I'm middle-aged and don't have fantasies of living a life of action and adventure and am a family man, the appeal of Rolex is diminishing while that of PP is growing. So my question to everyone here: How tough is the Aquanaut? Would you say it is as robust as the Submariner? Can it take a beating? By which I mean travel, some diving (not below 60M...it is a diving watch after all), carrying stuff (kids, boxes, usual rubbish), and normal day to day wear. I'm not a Navy Seal or anything like that. I'm not going to be jumping out of planes and rolling around in hand to hand combat
