How do they make it look new?
When buying a pre-loved ROLEX, I've read that you can send it off for a servicing, where the watch returns "good as new". I'm asuming this servicing takes place at ROLEX hq, but does anyone know what exactly they do to the watch? Do they replace blemished hour markers, dial features, bezels & crystalsor simply run over it with a scrub brush and give 'er an oil change? Admittedly $500 for a service would be considered absurd by any non-WIS, so I'm just curious what to expect should I buy 2nd hand and invest in a service.Thanks.

I picked this one up this week. This is what's usually called the 'Driver', but I haven't seen it called that in any Elgin ads. It appears in ads from 1939 till 1951, right before Elgin started putting model names in their ads.It's in pretty good shape - only a little brassing visible, complete movement with what looks to be a good balance staff. Once the crystal's off, you can see the dial is actually really good!Elgin put at least 3, possibly 4 different movements in these babies. They started with the 538, the first 21j 15/0, then the 559 and then the 626. They MAY have put some 670s in, since it was still being sold after the 670 superceded the 626. So I wondered what it was running.Taking off the back was initially unrevealing...That's right - a dustcover. And underneath....It's a 538.
