I sent my parts cushion dial off to ID. Along with it, I sent a photo of Tom's cushion with white lume as an example of how I'd like it done. (Now I can't find the photo to share). ID is asking if I want the dial in Butler finish (as this dial was originally done) or if I want a white dial with the white lume. What do I want? These old watches aren't my specialty. I'm not sure how different the two finishes are.
Our resident Military Watch Guru Stan has truly been a one man wrecking machine when it comes to sparking the interest in classic militarytimepieceshis creations are just eye-popping and I have been luckyenough to have some in my collection...I really never got into the military aspect of Illinois, but have slowly added some pieces along the way as I talk with Stan, and Fred too. When I come across an engraved version in Original condition, withmilitary provenance...My Heart really pounds and I grab it.This little badboy showed up today:YGF Cushion with Military engraving on the casebackCapt. That's all I could think of to grab your attention on this one.I get a call from Stan last week, dude guess what I got?A WHITE Pershing Dial1917 (silence)(G) Really?(S) It was kinda rough, but I did a little trick (a mutual friend of ours) suggestedand it WORKED!BEFORE: This is a normal picture of the back of the dial. This is another picture but the contrast values have almost been reversed so the "11-17" is much more clear. Some before shots of the 1917 serial numbered 7 jewel movement, it was pretty bad!As you can see ALL of the stamped serial number are matching! This is the movement after it was completely taken apart and and properly cleaned.I just installed a brand new mainspring.Timing is +7, amplitude is 290 and the beat error is 0.2 ! ! !The inside of the case back. Now at this point , I am thinking wow, how cool that would look in an "off set" crown case...like my Black Pershing (Alaska trip)Stan says, No Problem! With Test band:With Matching Band:So Stan saysYou had better take
I was look at a used patek 5036, but it did not have booklets or the cert. It just have the box, outerbox, watch and the stilet. The watch is probably at least 10-15 years old if not more. Otherwise everything else seem to be in order. You are not going to be able to get a replacement cert. So my question is how much of a discount should I associated with not have the booklet and cert. thanks
