Discoveries & Inventions that made the Quartz Watch possibleIn 1880, Marie Curie's husband Pierre and his brother Jacques discovered the piezoelectric effect. The two men found that when pressure is applied to certain materials like topaz, quartz, and cane sugar (among others) they generate electricity. The following year Gabrielle Lippmann observed that the reverse works as well - when an electric current is applied to these elements it would cause them to vibrate. Quartz is one of the best of these materials for scientific and industrial use since it is abundant and inexpensive, being made of the same elements as sand (silicone dioxide). Looking to acquire this particular GMT 16700 from mid 1990s , would like to ask your opinion on the case condition. Is it overpolished? Is it missing any bevel required of this model? Is this a good condition overall?
