Hello everyone! I was at my local auction today, and picked up what I think is a Nautilus 404. It was in a box lot with a ton of not so great watches. They were sold as choice for which ever ones you wanted in the lot. I might of paid to much for this one, as I wasn't sure what model it was, and just bought it based on it's great look. I paid $110 for it, which is a lot for one watch for me to spend on one watch, but thats ok. When I engage the stem to set the time and push it back in, the second hand moves for about 10 to 15 seconds, then stops, so I'm guessing it just needs a battery. Also, do you have to remove the crystal to replace the battery? I plan on keeping this one, but would like to have it looked over by someone to make sure it's OK. It needs at least a new battery, a polishing, and a polishing to the crystal. Can anyone recommend someone to work on this watch for me? Also, do you think I spent to much on it? Thanks in advance!
OK. Don't laugh. My two recent purchases are my first ever automatics. The instructions for both mention how to wind them manually, but doesn't mention when you should stop. I've wound mine up (maybe about 10 turns?) and now have been regularly wearing one and keep the other in a winder. Neither have "stopped" yet from losing power. My question is, can the winding mechanism be damaged if manually wound "too much"? I never felt any tension when I wound mine.. But I was being pretty conservative and didn't wind it too much. Is it supposed to tense up as it approaches the limit? I also read somewhere that some watches have a "slipper" mechanism such that it can never be overwound? Comments/suggestions? For reference, I have the SubAqua Noma III GMT (2893 mov't) and the Swiss Legend Ambassador (CL888 mov't).Thanks!
The 5205 wears quite small for its 40mm size. Does the 5960 wear bigger? Would like a Patek AC with day/date/month windows but my 5205r does look small on me - am wondering about trading up for a 5960r.
We were pretty much newlyweds in 1986 when my wife surprised me with a TT DJ36 for my birthday. She had been socking away some of her salary for months to be able to pay for it without me suspecting. I was a little nervous wearing it at first for fear of loss or breakage as up until then, my most expensive watch was a $35 Casio. At any rate, it has been my daily wear pretty much since then. Ten years ago, I was in NYC and dropped it off for service and had the champagne dial changed to black (sacrilege, now I know).A couple of months ago, I noticed a colleague wearing a Submariner, admired it and thought it may be time for a new Rolex. Did some research on the Rolex website and decided upon a white SS Daytona. I think you all know what happened when I walked into my local AD and asked about it! After that, did some googling and found this site. Read it for a while and thought a Polar Explorer 2 with the second time zone complication would be my next watch. Went to a different AD in a m
