- I didn't feel the watch looked as fancy in its picture. I wanted something much more casual. Therefore, I am in the cess of returning the watch.

IWC IW502302 with Collector Box wrist watches news:
Following on from yesterday, I thought I would show you the wrist watch that is generally accepted to be the model that started the acceptance to the wrist watch (from pocket watch) in 1927.It is a rare silver 1929 Octagon Rolex Oyster. What makes this watch so significant is that it was the model worn by Mercedes Gleitze when she swam the channel in 1926.She was 27 yrs old and wore this model around her neck. Waiting for her was Wilsdorf and the Daily Mail Newspaper, and that was the 'start' of Rolex association with famous sportsmen/woman and explorers.Actually this swim, was a 'vindication' swim, and this time Mercedes Gleitze only made it about 4/5 of the way across. So the vindication swim was not a complete success, but this Rolex Oyster, strapped round her neck came out of the water working perfectly. My 1929 Silver Octagon Oyster. In its box:Here is the young Mercedes Gleitze, with the 'oyster' around her neck:and her actual watch:RegardsAdam
Just wonder what everyone considers a must have in terms of literature for a watch collector? I would love to purchase a book that goes through the various movements, the inter-workings, and influential brands.Something with nice photos would be nice!
I received my Hirsch straps today. I spent more on these (because I had an Amazon gift card) than I have on any other leather strap. They are Duke line. The first disappointment was that they are made in China, despite the band reading, "Hirsch, Austria Since 1765." In terms of quality, they seem awfully stiff, but I've felt that way before about several straps and they have broken in over time. One positive thing is that they are padded and the strap is thicker by the lugs and then gets thinner towards the buckle.I'd love to buy an American made strap, but my budget tops out, apparently, at the Chinese made line of Hadley Roma and HirschWell, at least the NOS metal bracelets from Times of Plenty were American made
Hey guys, I've been looking for a watch for my wife as a birthday present. She mentioned she likes smaller watches (so I'm thinking 32mm face MAX. She also said she likes the date in their in some way or another. The movement that comes to mind is a Ronda 705 which should hit both criteria. However, I don't want to pay crazy money (hope she isn't reading this) on a swiss made version, because tbh she wouldn't appreciate it much anyway.I basically want to know firstly if the movement is any good for a nice little womans fashion watch, and secondly what sort of price would be good value for say, a piece made in china but with the Ronda 705 movement driving it? Any help would be appreciated, it isn't her birthday until late march but I'd like yo get sorted sooner rather then later haha Thanks in advanceDB
Waiting for my first Omega watch : PO liquid metal chrono. What you guys think about this watch as far as comfortable, quality etc. ?
