New F.P. Journe Book and Exhibit Celebrate Historic Gunmetal Watches
Most of the watches that Francois-Paul Journe produces for his independent brand are anything but “proletarian:” most come in gold or platinum cases and have movement parts made of 18k rose gold. However, Journe’s newest publishing project, “Steel Time,” celebrates the classic burnished steel “gunmetal” watches of the mid- to late 19th century and how they made timepieces accessible to the masses. “Steel Time” is written by vintage-watch experts Jean Claude Sabrier and Georges Rigot. Journe, who contributes the preface, has assembled what he says is the world’s largest collection of gunmetal watches (some of which he acquired from Sabrier, another collector of vintage steel timepieces) ¡ª a total of 200, all of which are covered in the tome’s 300 pages and are on display throughout the summer at the Forbes Galleries, on New York City’s Fifth Avenue. New camera, old watch and no clue
So I decided it was time to Invest in a better camera (who knew buying watches would extend to this?) since my old Ixus just didn`t give me what I needed. So here`s a couple of pics, boy do I have alot to learn! The manual on this thing is a 150 pages!!Oh, and It`s the Nikon D80 with a 18-55 lens. Not really up to Hannes or JBHII quality, but I promise I`ll get betterHappy New Year everyone!

T Serial 16570 Back From RSC
Started this process back in February. So took about 2 months door to door. Generally use a good friend who is a CW21 for any watch servicing, but decided to send the Exp II in for a full RSC treatment. Mainly because I wanted to order a new bracelet for it. Ended up doing a full service + new crystal, bezel, crown and bracelet. Even though she has lug holes, I went with the SEL 78790A bracelet which fits perfectly. In the end the RSC bill was about what I paid for the watch initially. She is a T serial from 1996 ish and had never had the caseback off. This is actually the first Rolex I have ever had that stopped running. I guess 20+ years of performance without a service is actually quite remarkable and speaks to Rolex toughness. Basically looks like a brand new watch IMO. Glad to have her back in the rotation and have nothing but positive things to say about RSC Dallas. Some crappy phone pics, but hopefully shows the nice work RSC performed.
