Hamilton Pulsomatic Watch For 2010
I think that this will be a pretty well-received watch for 2010, and that a lot of people are going to dig this. Another of the many many "historical rereleases" we have been seeing lately. So, a long time ago Hamilton released the Pulsar. It was the first digital watch. This was in 1970, just a year after Seiko introduced the first quartz watch (that was analog). The Hamilton Pulsar was not an LCD (liquid crystal display) watch, but rather had a red colored LED (light emitting diode). With an LED, power consumption is a bit issue although it is bright when viewable. As such, you needed to manually press a button on the case to display the time on the Pulsar - as it would have drained the battery too quickly otherwise. Despite this, it was an accurate movement and really popular at the time. I recently picked up a Constellation that I find particularly captivating; The reference, 157.0001, houses one of the more unusual and uncommon movements, the super flat 712, This caliper is part of the the 700-712 series of manual and auto wind omegas from the mid 60s- mid 70s powering some very nice, dress looking, Constellations. This one was produced in 1968. Many were all gold with integrated bands. Most were rectangular or Tonneau, A few, such as this one, were stainless steel. The 712 has the distinction of being the thinnest auto caliper ever produced by Omega, only 3mm thick. The actual manufacture of the movement was done by Edward Piguet/Rayville SA-Montres Blancpain of the then new SSH Group, i.e., today a facet of Swatch that would, in part morph into ETA. Do anyone know the case number for the midsize Seamaster? I'm looking for some spares from Otto Frei but I don't have the tools necessary to open the caseback on my watch
