Nomos Glash¨¹tte, a watch brand very popular in its native Germany and now making a big push in America as well, takes justifiable pride in its flagship timepiece, the starkly designed ¡ª and multiple design-award-winning ¡ª Tangente watch, which applies Bauhaus design principles to its dial.Watch aficionados are likely familiar with the German watchmaking town of Glash¨¹tte, and the two major luxury brands that hail from there, A. Lange & S?hne and Glash¨¹tte Original. (Another German watch company, Tutima, has recently moved some manufacturing there as well.) Nomos, founded in 1991, has a few aspects in common with the “big two” Saxon watch brands, in that it makes its own movements and incorporates traditional Glash¨¹tte elements into them, such as three-quarters plates and Glash¨¹tte wave and sunburst decorations. Well, it's about that time when I start looking into making another purchase. How I do love those quarterly bonuses.Originally, I was looking into a Harley (thanks to current gas prices), but I'm having to have some rather extensive dental work done, and that'll take the bike out of the running. I'll be pretty as all get-out, mind you, but I'll still be driving my truck.So, I'm thinking watches. Shocking.I'm actually not looking at "going big" in terms of price. John Holbrook had a Sea Dweller for sale, and I think I would've popped for that but, otherwise, I'm thinking in the sub-$1,000.00 range.A couple of pieces have caught my eye:Riedenschild: Does anyone here own one? What are your impressions of it? PVD/DLC talk - post your pics
Pros: -Looks awesome-Unique-People see it as a statement or rareCons:-Rolex won't touch a coated watch so you have to service it at another center (but, you can de-coat it and they will service it for you after it's restored to its original state)-PVD tends to wear off and rack up scratches after a while and its not pretty (can't say it adds character on this one) but depending on the quality of the coating it can make it more or less scratch resistant. -DLC apparently makes the steel a few times stronger than normal.Im curious to know what everybody thinks of a PVD/DLC watch and how many have them?
