Hi: I am new to the appreciation and collection of vintage watches, and I have been studying, reading, and doing computer searches about this for a few weeks, now.Besides learning quite a bit about the whole study of horology, I am also learning that there are lots of "watch shops" out there that don't know diddly about watches. Their main business of watch repair is replacing batteries in quartz movements, and for anything beyond that, they send the watch out to "our watchmaker." Well, "our watchmaker" turns out to be some guy with watch experience who comes around every few weeks. If you get something done, there's no notes, no explanation about anything, and it's all too impersonal for me.I'm in New Orleans, which is a hotbed of estate jewelry shops and estate auctions, but I'm not ready for that yet. But I would like to find a watchmaker who will let me describe the problem with a watch and get his opinion on it and get the work done at a reasonable price. Most "vintage jewelry and
Hey guysI am a new member and a total noob on the luxury watch front, so please go easy on me!I have a real interest in fine watches, and as I am planning my first serious investment at the moment. I've found it very interesting reading a number of threads on this and other forums. I've learned quite a lot, but I'm still only a beginner.Anyway - I'm not one to jump feet-first into anything without doing some research. If I was, I would probably now be wearing a TAG Heuer Carrera Tachimetre. I've seen a couple about, love the way it looks, I like the history of the Carrera and I tried one on in Goldsmiths recently and though it looked great.BUT - the more I read the more unsure I am about TAG. I have a budget of around ¡ê2k - I can't really justify going over this. But I want a quality watch to start my collection, and something that will last many years, and possibly that I can pass on. Another website (Chronocentric) mentions TAG as a "pseudo-luxury" brand alongside Raymond Weil
