Rolex Question, Non-Automatic??
I was talking to a very good friend of mine yesterday over a few drinks. The conversation got onto watches and he was telling me about his Rolex that he wears everyday. It's a gold day/date. He told me it wasn't automatic. That it had to be wound everyday. I never heard of a Rolex that wasn't automatic. Not quartz either.Is there such an animal?? I don't know alot about watches, but never saw one, if there is such a watch. He swears he has to wind it everyday.

HelloI am new to this forum, I am eager to read more. I signed in to ask your opinion on the sell I am about to make : my calatrava platen 5107P bought at Place Vendome Paris 4years years ago, I have all the papers, the box and the watch has been cleaned and polished by patek philippe, it's almost as new except that the 2 watch straps are used.Does anyone know how much i can expect if i sell to a retailer or if i sell via an auction or online? I searched on the web and found many 5107 gold sold at 11,500$ to 15,000$ (asking prices 18,000 to 22,000) but no platine 5107.Platine Patek Philippe are rare for prices of less than 50,000e, patek philippe don't offer any right now but the price of gold is now the same as the price of platine.I want to sell it well if I end up to sell it so any help will be appreciated

TWO Very Special 1918 WWI US Army Elgin Trench Watches!
Hey guys!Last week I picked up TWO very special 1918 WWI Elgin Trench Watches.These two styles are the only ones that have been confirmed to have been bought by the United States Army.One case was made by Joseph Fahys and Company (OreSilver case) and the other case was made by the Illinois Watch Case Company (Nickel case).Both are semi-hermetic cases, meaning that they are threaded cases rather than friction.The Joseph Fahys case truly is an absolutely remarkable example as it still has just about ALL of the required black oxidized finish on the case. (16mm lugs)I have NEVER seen one that has the black finish so full in-tact before, almost unbelievable!Different companies had different ways of achieving the the required black finish, Joseph Fahys and the IWCCo did in fact oxidize the black finish while others used black paint.Nobody has tried to open this Fahys case the wrong way over the years by prying it open, the case threading is perfect.It still has the original factory crown as

Could Rolex remove the cyclops and just make the date window larger?
This might be the dumbest question in the world, but why doesn't Rolex make the date window 2.5x larger and remove the cyclops? At this point, it won't happen because the cyclops is such a Rolex icon, but is there something wrong with doing that originally?
