Unusual observation with a GMT
Hi allnot exactly new, but just now making the migration to the new forum...About two years ago got an Omega 50th anniversary Seamaster GMT (2534.50) for my (surprise!) 50th B'day. It's been a great watch for travel, being one of the true GMT calibres. But after 8 months or so, it started running unacceptably slowlosing 4-6"/day regardless of positionnot enough outside COSC specs to make the hassle of getting it repaired under warranty worthwhile. So it ended up sitting in the case, benched by it's faster brethren. But here's the interesting part: three months ago while preparing for an upcoming European trip, I wound it and set the date using the hour hand advanceand the hour hand was advanced a LOT: about two weeks' worth. Since then, the watch has been spooky accurateeven for an Omega while worn it gains less than 1"/day, and it reliably loses ~2-3"/day while sitting 12 o'clock up. Went to my local Zodiac AD today to get some ideas for my birthday present (you see, I bought my wife a Kitchen Aid mixer for hers so I've got at least $250 to spend).I was impressed with several of the brand's newer models, the Air Dragon, the Dragon Wing and the Deep Reef. They were impressive because all were priced at $250 or less but screamed quality and excellent fit and finish for the price point. All ranged in case size from 44mm to 46mm, slightly domed mineral crystals and sporting a quality thickly padded leather strap, caoutchouc rubber or ss bracelet. Each has a Ronda quartz movement. Should I trade my PAM for a SubC?
I've been progressively moving up the food chain since getting bit by the watch bug and recently purchased a PAM 510 from my local AD. It was my first luxury piece and certainly the most expensive to-date. I've never owned a Rolex and at the time I picked up the PAM I was considering either it or the SubC date, ultimately going with the PAM as it had been a desire for a long while and at the time felt the look better fit my style (I've always considered myself more on the raw/edgy side as opposed to reserved/classy). Fast forward a few months and now the Sub is keeping me up at night¨Csomething about it's timeless appeal. I also struggle with strap fit throughout the day and love the idea of the glide-lock clasp. Ugh. Im also romanticized by and very seriously considering going down the 1-watch road, mostly because I'm growing tired of the dissonance I feel when choosing which to wear each morning. Im not sure I could do it with the PAM as it lacks a date and isn't as versatile imo. I'm
