Jacob Co JC - M38YGDC wrist watches news:
This past weekend Paneristi celebrated its 15th Anniversary at a private residence and gallery in TriBeCa. HODINKEE was there to witness the excitement, as the North American President of Panerai, Rafael Alvarez, revealed the special edition Luminor Base Logo PAM00634 in honor of the celebration. It was a special night for all of those who attended, in particular the founders of Paneristi. The room was full of Panerai enthusiasts and collectors who mingled amongst a fantastic collection of vintage Panerai wristwatches belonging to a private collection. 1 OF 16 2 OF 163 OF 16 Mare Nostrum PAM300 4 OF 16 6152/1 "Marina Militare" Made In 1955, 47 MM 5 OF 16 6 OF 16 3646 With Anonymous "Kampfschwimmer" Dial Made In 1943/1944, 47 MM 7 OF 16 6154 "Radiomir Panerai"/"Piccolo Egiziano" Made In 1954, 47 MM 8 OF 169 OF 16 3646 "California Dial" Made In 1944, 47
I tacked this onto another post that was discussing a particular watch type (American bumpers), but it deserves a separate airing in a Beginner's section:When you're junque-shopping (some call in "antiquing"), why am I getting resistance from the shop when I want to pop the back? I know these people are definitely not watch experts, but how can they expect you to NOT look at the movement when they are asking as much as $350 for a watch? I walked out of two stores in frustration today, because I hadn't even gotten to the haggling stage because I didn't know enough about the piece, and I'm not about to buy something on faith. And especially with screwbacksdo any of them have gaskets or seals I should worry about (this is for 50's-era pieces)? If I whip out my caseback unscrew-er, shouldn't they be impressed enough to let me unscrew it? I've been thinking about this, today, and I wonder if owners of shops like this, in a tourist area like New Orleans, depend on the tourists to make impulse
This time the PAM 270!What an absolute stunner! I can tell you that the price was a real stunner, too:DKR. 85,500 which is US $ 15,260! And NO discount! Panerai does not allow my AD to discount them. Also, my AD is still not allowed to service PAM's with in-house movements which bugs me a bit since the watch must then be sent to Panerai. It takes several months go get it back, and their charge for servicing it is almost 3 times the price of what my AD would take if he were allowed to service it.However, they expect to get the permission soon.I would probably go for the PAM 233 instead. The dial of the PAM 233 seems more "clean" without the "9", and somehow a "10 Day power reserve" AND "automatic movement" just doesn't make sense. Also, the PAM 233 is considerably "cheaper" and easier to re-sell should you wish to do that later.Trying on the PAM 270 gave me a good idea of how the "Fiddy" (1950) case looks on my wrist, although the PAM 270 is thicker than the PAM 233.
I had some free time so I went into Omega (FL). Tried on these two beauties, they looks like great timepieces to add to my collection, but not both. Which one would you choose and why?Saludos!!
