The local jeweler is a watchmaker and used to sell watches in his store. He still services them, if they are old enough, and he's done work for me before. He's well into his 80's and slowing down, but I still wander in there every month or so to see what he has in his used and consignment case. He usually has several decent pocket watches and occasionally an interesting wristwatch.So, a few weeks ago, I happen to spot a Longine Flagship in his case. He said it was a brand he'd sold back in the day, and this one was just left over from that time. It's been knocking around in a drawer that whole time, and he happened upon it and moved it to the used case. But when I looked at it, he wouldn't sell it to me because the hour and minute hands were not aligned properlythis may be why it was in the drawer in the first place. Saturday, I wandered back in, and he'd serviced it to repair that fault and to clean and oil the movement. He sold it to me for less than the usual ebay figure.This is one

Need trf help - unique situation
Team,I am first to admit I am no guru in Omega's, I did have a Professional Chrono Seamaster for a while but it was too big on my wrist, I obtained it as part of a trade.In any case my help is on a sadly different matter. One of the staff of my Sales agent sadly took his own life, none of us including his family saw it coming. He is doing all he can to help the wife and the three boys all under the age of 10. One of the things he has asked me to help with is to find a watch he can give the wife to give to each of the boys on their 18th birthday to remember their father with. He has indicated a budget of around $5K per watch, and he has asked me to pick a watch that wont go out of fashion over the next 10-15 years before the boys receive their gifts (not sure if they will need an oil inspection over that time by the way). My suggestion to him no surprise is to go with a classic Omega which I was thinking would be a Speedmaster or seamaster diver. I have pulled these two model numbers of

Purchasing 2 Platonas - Thoughts?
I currently own a WG Sub and a BLRO and love them.I was looking to add to my collection so I went to an AD and actually tried on both the regular version with brown subdials and the version with all glacier blue dial and glacier blue subdials with the diamond markers.I loved both.I have an opportunity to purchase both of them at 30% off MSRP.I wanted peoples opinions (I already PM Dr. Tom and appreciated his thoughts!) about whether the watches are too similar to have in one collection or are they different enough?I really thought they looked different enough.Finally, I don't flip watches so these would be keepers so I am not worried about losing money selling them on the secondary market.I know I could get a Platona and DD40 in platinum or maybe a Platona and a Patek ....but I really prefer Rolex sports watches above all others...so I wanted everyone's thoughts.Thanks.
