Advice for a first cheap watch
Hi,I have been reading about watches for a while, about brands and also about maintenance of mechanical watches. I would very much like to buy a ok quality and good looking watch, and preferably more than one so I can try my luck at repairing it (and have spare parts), and I would like to start in the cheap end.So what is good looking to me? Here is a list of watches I really like, but really really can not afford:Eberhard MULTI-SCALE from the 1940s. I like the dial and the bubble glass in the older versions.Sinn Model 900. Again the dial is amazing.Universal Geneve AERO-COMPAX from the 1940s. I like the old school look and the bubble glass.Breitling Chronomat from the 1940s and Breitling Navitimer from the 1960s, because they just look great :)I know they are all way out of my economy, and also nothing I would want to start taking apart my self. So, any advice what to start out with? I would like it to be of good quality, and preferably to have a vintage look. What about vintage Russi

I want to show my two favorite watches. The diver is my every day watch and the faceted one on the right is my dress watch. The Faceted one I've had for about ten years now and really don't know how old it is. I picked it up at a thrift store of all places and it was my first exposure to the simple elegance of an Orient.The diver I got in November and worn it just about everyday. It's sturdy, classic styling and not as heavy as some other watches of the same style.

Wanted - Business/Dress watch for job interviews
I have several job interviews to attend over the next few weeks and wanting to purchase a new watch to wear to them.Recently my one and only Swiss watch which I purchase 6 years ago from a private jeweler in Basel Switzerland has gone missing! Sadly, I'm not sure whether I will find it - it may be lost forever.To replace it I would love something elegant and something minimal yet not too boring. I like a few models from Xen, Alfex, Xemex and also Stowa. I'm not a huge fan of all the big name watches, especially things like Tag and Omega or Seiko and Citizen etc These seem to be too popular for my liking.I would like something a bit more unusual - unique - understated but sophisticated!Willing to spend up to 500 USD but if I can get away with something that meets my needs for under 250 then that would be preferable.Ideally a mechanical watch is my preference, but if the watch is stunning looking and fits my needs visually then will consider a quartz.Also my wrist size is about 6.75" so

Ultimately, if I were ever to run through them all, let me assure you!), it would not only be a mix of brands, but also of vintage and new. And, for that matter, some of the newer pieces would by definition become vintage.Running out of choices right now isn't a problem: Plenty of Bond watches I still don't own (unfortunately!). But how should I build it in the near future?On the one hand, I treasure my 35-year-old-plus Hamilton Pulsar LED, and my Breitling Top Time dating back more than four decades. But I wear neither, although they, like all my watches, are sized for my wrist just in case. so my last purchase was a submariner and now i have decided that i would definitely love a panerai 392. meets all the criteria. date without bubble, 42mm, SS etc. but i have a conundrum. i could buy it in the uk new but pay a premium or wait until i go on holiday later this year and buy it from a official dealer for a saving of ¡ê1000 plus the tax(i guess, having not looked into it). i am not in any rush but i was hoping for some wise words from the forum
