Jaeger LeCoultre 1488402 wrist watches news:
This week, Bring A Loupe focuses on a perennial favorite: vintage Omegas, from an intriguing Railmaster to an exotic Speedmaster. We will also examine one of the very first Rolex Submariners with crown guards, a reference 5513 with a flawless gilt dial. And to round things out, we have a couple of chronographs from Breitling and Universal Geneve, each with their own interesting quirks. This is your Bring A Loupe for January 8, 2016. An Early Rolex Submariner Reference 5513, A Stunning Vintage Sub With Glossy Gilt Dial 1 OF 12 This dial instantly tells you one thing: you are not looking at your average Submariner. This vintage Sub exhibits exactly what we love: a deep glossy dial and a fat case. The dial is marvelous, with a lacquer finish characteristic of the early 5513s. Until 1966, the reference 5513 boasted a glossy dial with gilt lettering ("gilt" referring to the golden color). Only after 1966 would the Submariners have the matte dials we described
The longer one spends around the watch collecting world, the more one tends to be interested in early watches – typically those that pre-date the "modern era." What I mean by that is there is a clear division with many brands – Rolex, Omega, and Heuer, for example, all began naming watch lines in the 1950s and '60s: the Submariner, Speedmaster, Carrera, et al. But, the watches that came before these great lines of horology existed are fascinating not only because of their relative obscurity, but also because of their purity in design. In this story, I examine four watches all available in Phillips' Geneva Watch Auction Two that were made by Rolex, and they're all complicated. But, none of them fall under the category of a Submariner, GMT, Daytona, or Explorer. And there is real beauty in that. Rolex Oyster Chronograph Reference 3525 1 OF 10 The Rolex 3525 was the first "Oyster" chronograph made by Rolex. Reference 35
Hi,I'm still looking around for a used 2254.50 and came across one on Ebay. The seller says it was bought in May 2009 from an AD.Is this possible ? When were these discontinued ?Also, when you purchase from an AD, do they list the model and serial number on the receipt ?This seller says the receipt, which he no longer has, didn't have the model and serial on it. Sounds funny ?Thanks
I seem to recall a classic LED or LCD watch that automatically inverted the display when the wearer rotated his wrist toward another person. I think this was in the late '70s or the '80s.Does anone recall this model?
A Ferrari and Omega Speedmaster are fast company! Cheers, Bill P.
