Every so often I look through the Ebay listings for Elgin pocket watches. Occasionally, sellers will list wristwatches there instead of in the ww category, plus I used to be a PW guy. Well, I saw this little guy, and I gave in to temptation...I think the rose gold got to me! The dial's a little dark and crapped up, and the bow has lost all its gold fill, and it was listed as a nonrunner. But when I got it and gave the crown a spin, it started right up!It's a 15j 546, 10s, dating from somewhere between 1940 and 1944 (Oh, how I miss the Elgin database!). At this time, Elgin had three levels of watch - Elgin, Elgin DeLuxe and Lord Elgin - and this was the most basic. I overpaid for it, but then since it turned out to be running, maybe not as much as I'd feared. I'm actually looking forward to working on it - it's so BIG compared to the 15/0 watches I've been working on! Heck the barrel alone's probably almost as big as the whole 15/0 movement! I'll barely need a loupe!
Hey everyone, the time has come where i'm going to take the plunge and purchase another watch, and I would like your help picking between my two finalists. I can get either watch roughly for the same price. I know there is no such thing as a "good buy" when it comes to watches in this price range, but which watch do you all think is more watch for the moolah?1) The Breguet 5207BBor2) Patek Philippe Aquanaut XL 5167 / 1AI know they are both very different watches, but i'm not looking for any particular style, just something a little different to add to my collection. Here is a picture of the Breguet (found online):I like this watch because it's very different looking. It's unlike anything else I currently own. I would not choose this watch as my first watch, or even my second or third, but I really like Breguet's rose engine turned dials, classic blued steel hands, and I think the retrograding seconds (reminiscent of old carriage clocks) is cool I also really like how this watch has
I'M WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS USED "SUPERLUMINOVA"? ALSO EASE OF USE? ANY DRAW-BACKS? I WAS THINKING OF USING IT ON A OLD W/W THAT LOOKS TO HAVE SOME KIND OF GLO-IN THE DARK NUMBERS ON IT. ALSO THE HANDS HAVE IT. ANY COMMENTS???
What is it used for?The watches which are more rare or pieces the AD just doesn't have.Who decides who can apply? The local AD?Do you need to be a good to great Patek customer or just a good or great customer at the AD?How long does it take before you can expect to find out if you qualify. If you do, how long can you expect the wait to be. As much as 5 years?
