Based on part 1 - Searching the Museum Database (link below)http://www.watchtalkforums.info/foru...htm#post554328I hope you took some time to search the NAWCC database I think you will be pleased, really I added very intuitive descriptions that should allow you to easily find an object if it is at all here. You can even search for 'fake'Anyway To-days thread (part 2)will cover 'Library/Catalogs'. Now what ever may or may not be lacking in the museum artifacts is surely not the case with the library and its archives. I am each day amazed and astounded to find and learn what is here. Really as far as horology, it would be simpler to list what is not here - very little. Also some of the information is OCR (Optical Character Recognition) entered which means its not just readable but FULLY searchable by keywords.Did you also know that, you do not need to visit the library to research its books. If you are a member you can borrow and they will post most of the books direct to you. Two c
I am thinking of getting a JLC Master Calendar Moonphase. (the attached is provided solely for reference) But as I look at the dial, I notice something that gives me pause.Does anyone know how this subsecond hand functions? I haven't found anything online about this. The dial goes from 0 to 29.5 which would suggest a lunar month. My question is this: Does the subsecond flyback to 0 at the end of the month? Or is this really a subsecond hand with no chapter marks on the dial? If that is the case, it is just wandering around without reference to anything and seems silly on a watch that, otherwise, is quite lovely. Thanks for any insights, comments, or pointers to
Here's a brief description:"General StarkThe Hampden Watch Co. grade General Stark, a modest model 4, 16-size, 17-jewel, nickel-finished, unadjusted movement, available in both open-face and hunting-case versions, was introduced after the turn of the century. The grade was also produced as a 12-size, 15-jewel watch. General John Stark, for whom the watch was named, was a revolutionary war hero of Bunker Hill and Bennington fame. The Hampden Watch Co.'s home of Canton, Ohio is in Stark County, which probably accounts for the company naming a watch grade in his honor."While the watch isn't in great condition and doesn't have any monetary value (of course sentiment wise, it is priceless), I did the turn the crown a little bit and it started right up. A 105 year old item and it still works! The Uncle Joe, who gave it to my great grandfather, owned a brewery in Cincinnati, but was ruined by Prohibition.
Hi,Looking into a RG 44mm. My question is I have a platinum wedding band.... will that look weird... RG watch with light metal wedding band?In the past, all my watches were either S/S or white gold... so I didn't have this concern....
Hi everyone,I have an opportunity to buy a NOS Omega Speedmaster Cal. 321. All I know about the watch is that the Cal. 321 is a highly sought after movement, is that true? Also what sort of price would be reasonable for this watch, it is a purchase through a friend of mine who works at an AD.Thank you in advance :)
