Comparing the watch releases of SIHH 2010 and Baselworld 2010, I would have to say that for the most part I was more impressed with the releases at SIHH, and it was a significantly smaller show. Why that is I am not sure, but here is another one of the good things that I spotted. This isn't just another Panerai watch, but rather the PAM339 in a special ceramic case. While it doesn't surprise me to see Panerai going ceramic, it just sort of happened without notice.Panerai doesn't even call their material ceramic really, but rather "Composite." Why? Not sure, there must be some sneaky marketing decision. One of the reasons likely has to do with the fact that Panerai uses a different type of ceramic. Hey guys,Long time listener and I am happy to say I bought my first Omega last night. I have a few concerns / Questions. I picked up a black seamaster 300m automatic Chrono. The first question I had after reviewing the book and the reference cards was the Calibre number. Mine has #1164. I am not sure what this is. Does it let you know something about the watch? does every watch have a different number? I also have a Ref number (21330424001001) and a Watch number (84793434) listed. The pictogram with the Calibre number also states the watch is good for 30 bars, but the watch itself says 300M / 1000FT which is 300 bars. Did I receive the wrong cards with the watch? Any help for my novice questions would greatly be appreciated. Also, upon opening the red box at home i noticed a lot of the red coating was peeling away from it. Should this be a concern? I am not planning on selling it anytime soon, but i have heard people like the box to be in good condition. I figure buying an expensi

Vintage watches...service required before use?
I got my first vintage watch (1940 Hamilton) from the bay. I wound it a few turns and it runs. I took the case back off and the movement looks pristine. So, can I use it as is or does a vintage watch have to be serviced before use? I read that you shouldn't run a watch "dirty and dry". Who knows when this watch was last serviced. I don't want to ruin the movement but I would like to just use it as is if it works. So, do I use it or service it before use?
