Omega ST 176.009 wrist watches news:
To many watch fans, Audemars Piguet is all about the Royal Oak, its iconic octagonal sports watch. However, the family-owned Swiss brand also wowed aficionados of haute horlogerie at this year’s SIHH with its incredibly complicated and extremely limited Tradition Tourbillon Minute Repeater Chronograph, inspired by a vintage timepiece from the 1920s. The watch’s cushion-shaped case takes its design cues from that of a vintage pocketwatch that currently resides in Audemars Piguet’s private museum, located in the brand’s longtime hometown of Le Brassus, Switzerland. Inside the case is a proprietary caliber that combines three major horological functions, a chronograph, tourbillon regulator, and minute repeater. According to Audemars Piguet, two editions of only 10 pieces each will be available: one in a titanium case with white-gold bezel (pictured) and the other in a rose-gold case with white-gold bezel. The rose-gold/white gold version has an anthracite dial
On Monday we showed you the new Calibre de Cartier Diver, the first in-house tool watch from the maison. Today we have something for you from the opposite end of the spectrum. Here is the Rotonde de Cartier Astrocalendaire, a perpetual calendar with a flying tourbillon that uses a multi-tier circular display for the perpetual calendar and a mechanism that is almost entirely free from the typical levers and springs. This is a seriously complicated watch that introduces a number of important new technologies, plus it just looks like it means business. 2 OF 15 Rotonde de Cartier Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Last year's SIHH saw the introduction of the Rotonde de Cartier Perpetual Calendar Chronograph, adding the benchmark pairing of complications to the Cartier stable. The perpetual calendar indicators are a bit nontraditional on this watch, with retrograde days at 6 o'clock and date around the perimeter of the dial. But the Astrocalendaire takes nontraditiona
One year ago today, the world of horology lost its greatest designer - Gerald Genta.? Responsible for more iconic designs than any other man in the history of timepieces, his trademark aesthetics are ingrained in countless watches we see, and speak of every single day.In an incredibly detailed and revealing interview just published via Greek watch blog VeryImportantWatches, Mr. Genta opens up about his earliest days - when he was getting paid 15 CHF to sell designs to American brands and Swiss suppliers - to how he designed the Royal Oak in a single night.? He mentions many of his less well-known work, like that of his Cellini for Rolex, a limited edition Seiko, oh, and a digital watch for Timex that was made in a very limited run of just 30,000,000 watches.? The article is not available online, so you must download a PDF.? This is an article you need to read if you have an interest in 20th century watches, design, or Genta himself.?
