Tip From Neighbor
My neighbor across the street is a WIS. Breitlings, Ulysse Nardin, Blanchpain, Rolex, and God knows what really high end stuff he has socked away. I've never seen his whole collection, just whatever he's wearing at the time. He's kind of a private person. So, I see him getting his mail and I ask to look at his new A6 Audi stashed in his garage (I have a line on an A4). I notice a really sweet Breitling Chronomat on a leather strap. I noticed how soft the strap looked and how nicely it fit his wrist. I have a couple of vintage watches with some really stiff straps. So stiff that the watch actually sits about 1/4 inch above my wrist. His secret....Take a little vegetable oil on a rag with a touch of water and apply it to the INSIDE of the band. Then work the band with your hands until it becomes more supple. Tried it on a couple of straps and the difference was incredible. They actually now lay flat on my wrist. Another reason to like straps over bracelets.

PO: accurate, beautiful, expensive -- but can't dive
Got my 2201.50 about a year ago, NIB from Bernard's gray market. Looks great, and runs super accurate -- as long as you don't actually dive with it. By way of background, I do deep Great Lakes (USA) technical wreck diving for fun. Mixed-gas diving down to depths well over 200 feet in 39 degree Fahrenheit water. Took the PO out this past weekend in northern Lake Michigan, and it seizes up as soon as it gets deep. Starts ticking again, like nothing happened, as soon as you hit your 70' or 60' deco stops, just don't count on this 2000 ft watch for any real diving. Good thing I had my normal instruments to get me up safely, and that the watch was just along for the ride because I meant to christen it as a real diver. It isn't. Maybe I'll take my Rolex Sub next time. H.W. Frank
